Have you ever thought about how you are going to use your journalism and creative writing skills or your women's studies, LGBT studies, human sexuality or history degree to earn a living? This summer learn how to flex your skills and degree to see what it takes to hang up your shingle "Writer for hire." I am a freelance writer and I have several projects coming in this summer that I need assistance with. I specialize in working with women, LGBT, and progressive issues and clients. I'm looking for a few good interns to assist me with some current and incoming projects this summer. Position: Research/Publishing Internship Job description: This summer when the fog rolls in, roll up your sleeves and dive deep into the library stacks, key in the right keyword search, dust off and sift through old documents, transcribe interviews as you get hands on experience about what it takes to make a living researching and writing about issues and subjects you're passionate about. Qualifications: • Must be able to work between 15 – 20 hours a week and be able to attend weekly meetings. • Must be available June through the end of August (excluding holidays and pre-planned vacations). • Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have reliable transportation. • Must own or have access to a computer. Skills: • Must be detail oriented and have good instincts. • Must know how to use MS Word and Excel. • Know how to conduct research utilizing a variety of sources and equipment (i.e. microfiche, internet, libraries, municipal records, journals, etc.). • Self-directed and organized. • Strong verbal and written communication. • Must have working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press Style. • Must type at least 50 words per minute. Possible stipend offered. College students and graduates are encouraged to apply.
