I just noticed that this is now out on dvd and wondered if anyone in the UK caught it when it was shown on the Beeb, and if so, what did you think? Is it worth buying?
I pretty sure it hasn't aired, granted I don't watch tv much so I wouldn't have noticed any advertisements for it before hand if it has, but I'm pretty sure the air date is still in question. I hope so anyway since I really want to see it. Also its going to be on ITV not BBC.
But as Amazon UK has the release date set at 12th of May, it's probably airing next weekend. ITV releases discs quickly, but vanilla-y.
Still, ITV discs may not have many - if any - Special Features (they tend to leave them on the website), but at least they release them after they've actually aired (the BBC likes to release series discs the monday before the final episode airs - it's a cruel money-grabbing exercise, I tell you!*).
I sent an e-mail to ITV to find out the air date, this is the reply:
"We have no schedule information for ‘Affinity’ at the moment to assist with your enquiry."
So yeah they don't know, I doubt it'll be next weekend because surely they already have the schedule for dates so soon sorted. They'll probably push back the release date of the DVD to whenever it does air.
Amazon UK has an updated release date of June 16th, so here's hoping it's on soon (again, it'll probably be the Sunday before the Monday - so in about a month or so).
Also, don't forget that ITV's Sunday night arts strand The South Bank Show is profiling Sarah Waters soon (I'm guessing on the same night - what a wonderful coincidence!), so don't forget to watch that. Or record it, since it'll be on at about 22:45 (ITV uses the show as a marketing tool a fair bit, but as I said earlier, they have piss-poor DVD releases, so I doubt it'll be on it).
itv have euro 2008 coming up in 2 weeks so that will throw the scheduling of most of there shows off, so who knows when it will be shown. Think it will be heavily advertised to be honest so doubt it will be hard to miss.
