What Makes Certain Women Appealing? We know it takes a special kind of women to attract the discriminating tastes of those of us at Afterellen. I wanted to know if anyone here could sum up those qualities. For example, why do we prefer Lena Heady over someone like say Heather Graham, both women who have played lesbians pretty unoffensively. Or Jordana Brewster over her costar Sara Foster. Evan Rachel Wood over Mischa Barton, etc.
What are your opinions. Submitted by Aya (355 posts) on April 26, 2008 - 8:57pm. |

Appealing Women
1. dark hair - im not a blonde fan.
2. people who have played a lesbian consistantly or tried to further our causes like amber benson, natalie portman, or piper perabo.
3. not super super skinny *as much as you can be in hollywood*
4. believability factor. i have to be SOLD on the idea that youre commited to the character you are playing. i didnt buy it with jordanna in debs but COMPLETELY bought piper in imagine me as well as lost and delirious.
Some thoughts
Good question! Why/how do these women have lesbian sex appeal? For me at least it has to do with the way the woman carries herself. She's walking in the world in a way that says:
I don't need a man's approval.
I'm not trying to live in a man's world.
I'm doing what I want to do and I'm not worried who's watching.
I think this plays into the "believability factor" stated above. That's big, too. I didn't believe Heather Graham, Sara Foster, or Mischa Barton...
I like dark hair, a nice
Real Lovely Women
I like a real woman, hips, breasts, attitude, face... all non-fake-ish. And some people are just easy to love. Take Amber Benson, she's gorgeous in a non-plastic way, she's cute ànd she's sweet. Verry appealing, both in the character of "Stuttering, Lesbian Witch" Tara as in the things I've seen of her personally. No big bad attitude but a sweet little real person which does stand up for what she thinks is right. LGBT for example, though she's a straight girl herself *(damned)*
just real women... not the kind thats too good to be true or even worse... the kind of "lesbian" that hangs around in straigh-mens-pornography *yuck*
nope, real women it is

What's appealing
My ultimate fantasy "star wise" is Drew Barrymore. I'd pick her over any actress on the L word anyday.
In real life, I find someone who really knows herself, but not ashamed to go off the path and be lost, and admitt it very appealing. A woman who is just comfortable living in her skin, and does not "try" to be anything for anyone else. Passion is super attractive. Energy. Living with a purpose, not just existing. On the superficial side...nice lips and a sexy smile will do it to me everytime. I dig Hips, thighs, alittle tummy as long as she's healthy, that's all that matters. BUT, if I had to choose between L word characters, it would go like this:
Tina vs Bett ( Bett hands down)
Laurel Holloman is lovely, but I love Jennifer Beals dark smokey eyes.
And the character Bett is so fucked up and romantically confused. Her passive aggressive bullshit is so real and human, can't help but love her... in an injured puppy kind of way. :-)
my friends say I'm sweet

Sense of humor. Charm.
Sense of humor. Charm. Nothing beats a charming woman.
i think...
Hmm
The most attractive characteristic in a woman is probably the ability for her to laugh at herself and move on. Most people say confidence, but I think this is the most important "type" of confidence. I've gotten into a lot of fights just because someone messed up at something else and brought their frustration over it to me, disguised as anger over something else. Intelligence is also key, but it doesn't have to be book smarts. Just something she is really into that she knows a lot about, and is willing to teach me.
And no fake tits or anything like that *GROSS* just a real woman's body, as is.
