I can see queerly now the rain has goneI know a number of topics here have looked at various things that have helped us in our coming out process, or helping realize our sexual orientation. Whether they be celebrities, books, TV shows etc. But I'm sure there have been a number of songs out there that you've heard and that have kind of inspired you to be true to yourself and not be afraid of others. SO what songs have inspired you on your coming out journey (or have helped you realize that you were a lesbian/bi/gay? Here are some of mine...some of these totally don't make sense Constant Craving KD Lang I can see clearly now the rain has gone- Hothouse Flowers True Colors Cyndi Lauper Hero by Mariah Carey Because you loved me - Celine Dion (after finding someone special i knew i could trust.) Gay songs!
When I started seeing my
When I started seeing my first girlfriend, she introduced me to Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, and a ton of other great girl bands. This was when I was 14, in 1997, Dig Me Out had just been released, and so that album will always make me think of those times. I didn't have a traumatic self-realization with being gay, it just sort of made sense. I remember not being worried or afraid at all. (What can I say. I was young and naive.)
I didn't really come out and start enjoying myself and dating until I went off to college. I finally got ladyfriends and other gay friends, and the song "Swing Low" by The Gossip will always make me think of those days.

Because I Told You So - Jonatha Brooke (le pant, le pant...)
Absolute Torch n' Twang - k.d..lang (the whole album - it's k.d, 'nuff said)
hurray for
incurablygay for a great topic! I'm one big fat lesbian cliche - mine was the Indigo Girls' Closer to Fine. and I didn't even know who they were or that it was this big lesbian anthem at the time. I first heard it at the little break in between Chloe Sevigny's and Ellen's bits in If These Walls Could Talk 2, and I always felt so lesbiany everytime I heard it.
For me it's more lesbian singers/bands, though, more than songs. I was obsessed with the Butchies for a while, simply because they were three butch(i)es and I couldn't believe that such a band could exist. And yes, kd lang of course. Big Boned Gal made me feel happy all the time, then I read kd's sleeve notes for Reintarnation and realised that THAT was a gigantic lesbian anthem too.
my gay songs.
Songs I listened to at the beginning of my gayness:
No Doubt's 'Tragic Kingdom' - I was 14. I wanted to BE Gwen Stefani. I started wearin Dickies and wifebears. lol
The entire Alicia Keys album 'Songs in A Minor'. I remember 2001 being in 12th grade and reading the online rumors that she was gay. Even back then. Give up the ghost, boo.
Garbage "Version 2.0" namely 'Special' - because i NOTICED Shirley Manson.
"Hey Mister" - Custom (Hey Mister..I really like your daughter..i want to eat her like ice cream, maybe dip her in chocolate..) My friend did that in the first drag show I ever went to.
"Say Yes" - Floetry. Somehow i always imagined loving a girl down to that song, not a guy.
"Come Sail Away" - Styx. They played that on the ep of Freaks and Geeks where Sam finally asked the cute girl to dance...right when the song got fast. Also, the girl I had a thing for burned me a copy of Styx Greatest Hits, and then we dated, and then we ended up going to see Styx because they came to our city lol. And then we had wild monkey sex.
"These Days" - Rascal Flatts - because my neighbor played that song all the time Freshman year. And I was just getting really gay then. lol
There's probably more. But that's a start. lol
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
i love me some gaypower songs!
