AfterEllen on Ellen...
AfterEllen on Ellen!
So I was thinking that some how, us as a community of AfterEllen could put forward the idea of getting Sarah Warn & Co onto The Ellen Degeneres Show, and here is why I think it is important:
Now I know a lot of you don’t need convincing but I think it is important to let them know why we love them soooo much.
I was just about 13/14 when I first came across this site, and all it had was it’s detailed recaps, a couple of pictures and columns of text about LGBT live and people, oh and don’t forget those all important celebrities and their activities. This was all before the time of Vlog technology and yet when I visited the site, even in those days, I got the sense of welcome, normality and even some place that I knew I could relate and fit into. This is where I would come and try to figure out who the hell I was, maybe try to define what I was feeling and thinking, although that is a journey in itself, I feel this site helped me out. And then came the Vlogs.
Back last year Sarah decided to do Vlogs. She introduced to us three women to recap and talk about South of Nowhere, and from the moment we laid eyes on them we were utterly smitten by their witty comments, their blunt opinions, their alcoholic- Mountain dew beverages and don’t forget those all important images of Dara’s guns, Karmen’s love of blonde wigs and Jill’s well, upper lady shots and straight forward attitude. They opened their homes and mines to share with us their opinions on how the Networks are portraying US as a community, and with their 99 cent props and re-enacted scenes were able to entertain and make light of some really naff writing and situations. Then came one very limber, enthusiastic and overly-hyperactive (always a good thing) Bridget, who at first I admit, I didn’t watch (I feel so ashamed J ). Jill had, had some other engagement and Bridget was there to fill in for her. I thought to myself, ’This won’t be the same.’ And pursued to wait until Jill had returned. This was, I think another week, so I decided to watch and see what Bridget had to offer and there she was, a little out of place at first, but soon enough swooped into a comfortable and natural role of entertainment. My mind betrayed me, it warmed to Bridget’s blunt sense of human, but unique energy and fell madly in love with her performance and personality. She even entertained us with her Jill like presence, of breast acting. From that moment on I had somewhere to go, something to keep me entertained when I was feeling low about who I was, when I was feeling bad that I was hidden in an imaginary closet, they made me feel like being who you were, and having a close bunch of friends, was the highlight of the world.
Sarah began to amaze us even more with her Vlog, She Made Me Watch This!, accompanied by her adorable girlfriend Lori. And through the past 10mths or so has introduced us to a whole new line of heroines and has helped to form a community and friendship between the people who visit this site. Everybody who comes on to this site and chats with you lovely ladies is welcomed. All of you are helpful, sympathetic and an ear or a mentor, when one of us has a problem. And if there is something we are not able to solve or help out with, she provided us with the ever so addictive Cathy DeBuono, who lightens and comforts us when we are at our most vulnerable state. She is able to help us paint a picture, a better picture, of how we can survive in a hard and difficult world.
You Americans are so lucky to have these women, these strong, friendly and delightful women to represent your LGBT community. They have helped to pave a brighter future for the next generation of LGBT, not in just your Country but in the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, in fact they have helped thousands of LGBT people around the whole world, to feel some what at home on the AfterEllen ‘family.’
Ellen has had Actors and Actresses on her show, who hasn’t achieved such world wide comfort and entertainment as these women have done in the last 10mths, so I think that, that alone deserves them a spot on The Ellen Degeneres Show to be recognised, not just as business women, but as heroines who are helping the next generation of LGBT people feel more comfortable and accepted within their own community and within their family life.
If that doesn’t deserve recognition, then quite frankly I really don’t know what does!
P.S sorry for the overly long statement but I felt they deserved a big speech. I wanted to know if anybody had any ideas of how to get in touch with Ellen or how to get this, some how recognised to come forth with any ideas.
I know that she has a Fan Mail address and I would be more than happy to write a letter, but I live in England and it would be a b*tch to send a letter so if anybody lived near Burbank, CA and felt they would like to do the honours, I would be more than grateful. The address is as follows:
Ellen Degeneres
The Ellen DeGeneres Show
Attn: Fan Mail
PO Box 7788
Burbank, CA 91523
USA
I also know that Liz Fieldman has connections and a myspace, which could be helpful. And a decent proposal could go a long way.
Thank you for your patience! J xx
