there are several gay male teachers at my school and my english teacher is the only lesbian i'm aware of. i think everyone knows pretty much because my school is rather accepting for the most part. they definitely exist, it's just a matter of being out and stuff. by the way, that top bottom part made me smile.

Indeed!
I went to a Catholic all-girl high school,
rumor has it that Miss Math and Miss Social Studies used to be lovers.

gay high school english teacher
my 4th year english teacher was one of the most complex individuals in that school, totally into her subject, especially shakespeare. i pretty much challenged everything she said, and challenged her as well, since i was her best student.
the result? after-class debates turned into love letters, and ended with a kiss. high school. what can i say? =)
Currently in highschool...
One of my male teachers is openly gay. He even takes his boyfriend to things like school plays and stuff, it's very cute. And all the girls love it! Another male teacher is also openly gay, mentioning his boyfriend sometimes, but he's a bit more private about it. Then there's yet another gay male teacher, but I don't know him very well (and I don't like him).
There's only one out lesbian teacher as far as I know, my English teacher, but that's more of an open secret. I think she once mentioned she lives with her girlfriend. Then we asked our French teacher, who confirmed the English teacher is gay.
And ofcourse, there are the ones that are not out, but you just know there's no way they're not gay. My straight friends never agree with me. But I will find out (yeah, I'm that bored during class).

I don't think any of the female teachers that taught me in secondary school were gay, although we had an extremely camp science teacher, who must be gay, although he never discussed his private life.
At my college, I've got one very openly gay teacher, and another who we think is gay. It is an art college, so not really surprising. =)
Yep. My Spanish teacher,
Yep. My Spanish teacher, freshman science teacher, and a literature teacher were all lesbian, and one of the male physics teachers was in a long term relationship with one of the male chem teachers.

Ahh young life...
...once again failing entirely.
Sorry, had some...interesting run-ins with them.
In terms of teachers...(I thought I posted here but I guess not, haha) I know there was a lesbian English teacher who left recently. She'd lived with her partner for quite some time. Currently I believe there might be one or two gay male teachers (that ping my gaydar anyway) but they aren't particularly out.
There is, however, an out lesbian math teacher who's new this year. She's a great role-model I think; there's a gay girl who I see around a lot who's generally troubled/etc. and is having a hard time with the whole high school/coming out ordeal, but the math teacher is helping her through it. It's nice to see.
High school is a very odd environment for gay people, I think. On one hand, lesbians tend to have less trouble with getting picked on (where I live anyway), but gay guys get pushed around a lot (this, of course, depends on popularity previous to coming out). Yet, straight girls seem to adore gay guys but get weirded out by lesbians. It's very odd...unless they're worried about lesbians jumping them in the hallway?
Anyway, my school is pretty good at being open/accepting (or at least tolerant) due to a strong anti-discrimination program/group that spans all grades and teachers, but there are still some issues. I think it's hard for teachers to be 'out' in the sort of environment that's cultivated in schools around here, but it's funny how quickly people get over the 'shock' when someone comes out. I think some actually realize it doesn't change a person's basic nature...
Sorry, rambling a bit. I was just thinking about it today. I intend to become a teacher myself and have been thinking about this subject a lot. Has anyone seen any teachers given problems due to their sexuality? As in, is it a big issue with students, or students' parents? Personally I don't intend to hide it when I become a teacher (bring it on, I figure), though hopefully in 5 years things will have changed for the better a bit more (one can hope).
