Angie!Ok, I simply can not take anymore of this! Will somebody on the L word please learn how to do Angie's hair!?!?!?! It may not seem like that big of a deal, but trust me it has gotten out of control. I don't fault Tina, because she stated way back when that she wasn't sure she was ready/able to raise an African American child. I blame Bette. Granted JB could easily pass if she wanted to (they've made a few jokes about it on TLW, and she played a character that did so in another film), but still. Does Bette not know anyone in California that knows how to do braids or use a brush????? Heck Auntie Kit, what is going on? Can you help your niece out? If not, someone please get that child to a hair dresser and quick! The hair is begining to take over. I just refuse to believe that Ms. Porter in all her high class glory would have a child running around with an unkept head. It just blows me completely. This rant was brought to you by me and a few of my friends. We are sick of seeing African American girls on television and film with wild hair. This just seems to be a trend that we would like to see end. Our children do not have unmanageable hair, and we would like to see A.A. girls who look presentable on screen. It is ok to have a wild puff when they are very young (infancy to 1yr), but at this point Angie is going to school and it is simply unreal that her hair is never done!!! Here, Here!
I, too, have noticed this.
When Angie was smaller, her little 'fro was adorable but now it looks down right nappy! I remember looking at this weeks episode and saying out loud: 'Angie! Honey- does NO ONE do your hair?'
As a Black woman myself, I 100% agree that (1) We do NOT have unmanageable hair and (2) I am sick and tired of seeing our children on televison with their hair unkempt. As if the mother (or father or any other family member or family friend) is too lazy to do it or Black hair in general is just too hard to do.
The person who I most blame for Angie's hair isn't Tina or Bette it's Olivia's mother (Olivia is the little girl who plays Angie). If the hair stylist of the show doesn't know how to do 'Black Hair' than why the hell can't her mother do it before she goes on set? OR as people of color, why the hell can't Jennifer Beals or Pam Grier do something?
I dunno. Maybe they think it's cute but it really isn't. Someone do that child's head!
OK-I'm thru.
Oh Sweetheart, join the club
The day they hear us complaining about Angie's hair is the day her hair will be did! And do it right Lword, don't have her runnin around looking like someone's damn Kenya doll (remember that?)
But, it must run in the family, cuz all three (Kit,Bette, and Angie) have had seasons where their looked a shameful hot kafaufully mess.....
Amen!!
You are so right!! Got me feeling like I'm in church shouting Amen! lol
But Angie's hair has been bugging me I even commented about it on the recap, there's really just no reason for her hair to look like that.
What also bugs me is how they'll have Tasha waking up with Alice and her hair isn't wrapped! Now come on, there is no way Tasha's perm is going to look as neat as it does without her wrapping her head. Then again I can see the L word turning Tasha into a mammy type of figure with a head scarf. Anyways I was so happy to see this posted now I'm going to go back and finish retwisting my locs!

They actually did have Tasha waking up with a head rag on in one ep in s4. And I took note. But it was only one time.
