So Angela Robinson directs the 3 heaviest Niki episodes of The L Word about a fun loving and immature (if sweetly so) lesbian starlet who is a bit irresponsible on the set and who is bearded to stave off rumors.  The same Robinson who directed Lohan in Herbie: Unloaded in which there were heavy rumors of the fun loving Lohan being irresponsible and partying too much.  All clearly posed photos show Lohan with boys (even going so far to drag out the ultimate and most overused publicist shot to steer away sapphic rumors - the beach shot - see Lohan likes men and not women) and yet finding a non photo op picture of her with a boy is rare.  Meanwhile every non photo op photo seems to be her with Ronson as are her most revealing moments, the MySpace hackings, the Sunset Blvd fight, the car accident, the passing out (not making Sam sound like the best person to be around), the trips abroad (Japan and Italy), calling the song "Rumors" our song.   

So while Lohan trots out some boy toy every time sapphic rumors hit again - interested to see the latest (faux possibility on high alert) or does the enter and leave separately nonsense (I love the video of what appears to be some of her management team making sure Lohan and Ronson leave a restaurant separately - listen closely for what Ronson and Lohan say to each other :), the facade seems increasingly transparent.  Even Lohan seems aware of this, the act of her covering her face with a purse when Ronson is nearby fooling no one.  Now she may have to keep from wearing the SR ring for awhile.  I hope not.  I'm waiting on a starlet to come out (it's been about 30 years since the hot starlet of the year did in Maria Schneider). 

I think the initials ring is kinda cute but she'll probably deny that they are together and just say that she wears it because they are 'good friends'.

Interesting catch on the Angela Robinson connection, Ediana!  The Niki character IS a dead ringer for Lindsay.  Also, could Wilmer Valderrama have been ANYTHING but a beard?  Ha ha... ok.  I'm biased because only 1% of the male population even remotely seems attractive to me.  But I think... hope... straight women would agree.

It's tempting to think she's had a long series of merkins/man-beards.  Along with having more lesbian friends from different walks of life than most straight girls (come on, how many straight girls do you know who seem to hang out exclusively with lesbians?), the "sapphic rumours", gossip's tongues wagging about her "gal pal" and lots of drugs are the only constants in this girl's life.  However... Lilo's reported to hook up with men frequently, even though, most times, the only evidence is her getting snapped by photographers leaving a club with a random guy.  And yes, something about her very publicly making out with anonymous guys makes me think she's trying way too hard to keep a hetero image.  I'm guessing bisexual, lots of brief flings with men, longer-lasting relationship with one/more women (Sam Ronson).  In any case... at least she's more interesting than some Hollywood closet cases who frequently pose with their beards at Starbucks or walking on the beach, as if anyone's buying it.

I was intrigued by the rumours I heard about Lindsay and Samantha back in April of '07, when Lindsay supposedly posted love notes on Samantha's myspace while in rehab. It also seemed like her DUI crash was caused by her getting in her car to chase after Sam after they'd had a fight (supposedly about Lindsay not wanting to make their relationship public). But news about them stopped when she went into rehab and has only just started to resurface, so I wasn't so sure.

But lately there has been so much that I'm starting to think it's impossible for them not to be dating! There's been reports about them moving in together, reportedly so that Sam can keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't start drinking/doing drugs again, and Star Magazine reported that they got married in a private ceremony in Lindsay's house in March, but I don't think there's much truth to that. Although, Lindsay has been wearing Sam's initial ring on her ring finger. LL has allegedly also opened a new facebook account under the name Lindsay Ronson, and if you look at it on facebook it actually looks pretty legit. There was that story about LL being involved with Courtenay Semel, and Courtenay and Sam fighting over her. Then there's the photos of them grocery shopping together, which isn't really a friends type activity. They've been spending time with each other's parents...LL recently had dinner with Sam and her dad, then they both went to visit LL's family for Easter (I think this was when they chartered a private plane?). And they also took a trip to Italy together, and Lindsay didn't sleep with any guys like in the previous trip. They've been swapping sneakers and were seen dancing flirtatiously together. And aside from that Lindsay's rarely been seen out in LA without Sam for the last 2 months.

I agree with Ediana, it's getting obvious that they're trying to hide their relationship in public - especially if you watch any of the videos on x17online.com - by walking separately or leaving somewhere separately when around the photographers. It's sad that Lindsay's management or Lindsay herself feel they have to do this. I don't know if I would be able to live like this, and it would certainly be a strain on their relationship. Where is that video that you mentioned, Ediana, with them talking to each other about her management keeping them apart?   

I think if you look at Lindsay's drug addiction in a different light, one where she's using drugs to try to escape the pressures put on her to hide her relationship with Sam, you start to see a very different person. I feel really sorry for her, because I know how hard it is for me being out with my girlfriend, and I don't have people tracking me 24 hours a day and reporting everything they see in magazines. But I think her getting back together with Sam is a positive step and maybe she's starting to open up to the idea of taking their relationship public. I think they make a cute couple and if they love each other, nothing should stop them from being together!

Mays, Sorry for the late response.  As for the transparency...pick the most Niki-centric episodes. 

I'd say ep 5 with the pot party and where Niki and Jenny make love for the first time in the closet, ep 7 which has the daytime trailer bed scene, the hot oil wrestling, and Jenny and Niki's nightime kiss afterwards and ep 10 where the gang goes on the bike ride and Jenny and Niki have that strap on scene.  Robinson directed 4 episodes this season (the season opener and those 3 heavy Niki eps 5, 7 and 10).  She wrote both ep 5 and ep 10.  I wouldn't be shocked if she wrote most of the Niki stuff in other eps too.  If you check out Chaiken's vlog after ep 10, she says that Niki was not originally a part of ep 10 but it was Robinson who advised the character needed to be added to the ep.

Also, Lindsay was asked yesterday in a radio interview if she was dating anyone. She responds:

That to me seems like she doesn't want anyone to know but she also doesn't want Samantha to feel like she's completely denying their relationship. Also her use of "people" instead of "guys" is interesting. But if she's not ready to be out yet, then that's 100% her choice and I respect that.

Some paparazzo asked Sam Ronson point blank if she and Lindsay were a couple, to which she replied "Are you retarded?" Which I guess isn't exactly saying no, but it seemed especially unfair that they corner her on her own and put her on the spot like that.

I mean, however you react, staying silent or shaking your head in disgust or whatever people are gonna draw their own conclusions. I dunno really what to think except that I think Samantha Ronson's music is cool and she seems so too so it's all good.

Thank you BritishLily.  It doesn't have to be turned up too loudly to hear.  43 seconds in you can hear "I love you..(unintelligible)" which appears to come from Ronson *(matches her voice).  45 seconds in Lohan says "I love you."  Now to the more interesting part.  The two individuals (Lohan and Ronson) arrive separately.  Ronson is met outside by a woman (publicist of some type? - as will be seen later she directs the exiting to maintain space between the two individuals).  As they leave, it is a staggered exit from the location (when you hear the distinct "I love you's").  The next location shows the staggered exit again with a reversal.  This time Ronson leaves first.  There is a delay until Lohan is allowed to leave.  As clearly shown on the video, the exits are orchestrated.  The filming isn't as crucial as photos.  The maintaining of space (staggered entrances and exits) keeps photos of the two together down. 

What is intriguing is that this orchestration is not occurring anymore.  The turning point seems to have been after the first trip to Italy this year where Lohan being posed on top of men - see she can't control herself around men (and rumors being supplied that she was with 3 men in one day) were so obviously set up, that I ponder if it bothered Lohan. One of the reasons I was not surprised by Ronson-Lohan's arguments in May of last year was the Callum Best situation (which seemed deliberate to quell Lohan-Ronson rumors) and I wouldn't be surprised if the Italy trip was the straw that brought down the playacting. She is no longer having publicists being there to orchestrate all her outings nor is she going overboard trying to hide hanging around Ronson.  She returned to Italy but this time brought Ronson with her.  They are now seen in LA and NY eating outside, walking by each other, sitting by each other, and Lohan's efforts to stay concealed have become more halfhearted as time goes by.   

They are also apparently living together.  I buy the Ronson being at Lohan's at night to keep her off drugs as much as I buy Ronson's response in that video where she goes "Are you retarded" (see # 3 below) which is not at all.  Ronson realizes that to keep seeing Lohan at this point, she has to play the game some.  Here's other infamous cover up styles.

1) Double dating - This one was used by Lance Bass for quite awhile.  If Lance was going out with his boyfriend, you get two women (just friends) to come along.  Each man walks with a woman with the other "couple" walking behind.  It fell apart when he tried this with Reichen because everyone who had seen The Amazing Race knew he was gay.  Once Lance came out, those double dates ended. The reason it never worked for Ronson and Lohan, is that Ronson is so well known as a lesbian, no one would but the double dates.  They could have Lohan be with a "fake" boyfriend and Ronson with a fake "girlfriend" I guess.  Best not to give any ideas though. As for now Ronson and Lohan still tend to use a distance between them walk so pair photos aren't easy to take.     

2) Beach shots - If you're photographed with someone in a revelatory manner or rumored to be in a same sex romance, the best thing to clear it up is some beach shots with a member of the opposite sex.  There are plenty of men and women that want some publicity and are willing to play the "fake" lover.  Photos of the two walking on the beach spell love (and sometimes it is).  However many times it spells "phony."

3) Incredulous reaction - Samantha and Lindsay have done this one a few times.  So has pretty much every closeted gay male and lesbian star (the queen is Queen Latifah herself) if they are not using the "That's my personal life" line which is seen as a giveaway.  Times are changing though and this is usually now left to publicists or friends supplied by publicists.  Why the second option.  Well Neil Patrick Harris's management gave a repudiation of Harris being gay.  The next day Harris came out.  Surprise surprise...management is going to lie.  So having a friend say it works better since no one trusts a publicist. 

4) She/He is something else entirely - They are my trainer.  They are my BFF helping me overcome drugs.  They are my dog walker.  They are a close friend and I promise that is all. 

5) Rely on the bias - This one works far better for closeted femme lesbians than anyone else.  The reliance is that many men and women (straight and sadly gay) will assume that an ultra hot actress must be straight.  Therefore they don't have to do cover up as much.  Just let bias play out.  Sad.  This also helps with the media.  The media for the most part isn't really interested in showing a femme actress being interested in women.  They are also aware many people want to buy into this (there was a brilliant article by Michael Musto this week which discussed the innate prejudice by people not wanting to hear gay couple gossip while eating up hetero couple gossip).  They want their women drooling over hunks.  Here's two articles - the original and is almost a copy.  Notice that the last line is missing from the second article even though it's an exact rehash (that line doesn't go with what the want of being depicted is).  Interestingly People Online does not shy away from Ronson-Lohan focus and is a good source.

You brought up a lot of interesting points Ediana! I also wonder why Lindsay is being more relaxed now about being seen with Sam. Do you think she will admit their relationship soon? With all that's been going on in the news about them, it can only be a matter of time before other people start to figure it out. Surely the papparazi who follow her 24 hours a day and see the two of them coming in and out of hotels and her house etc. know. But most of news sources are very careful not to insinuate too much. X17onine will have a leading headline e.g. "Can we call them Rohan?" and then in the article refer to Sam as Lindsay's BFF or "gal pal". I don't know why this is.

I have been following her "Lindsay Ronson" facebook account, which is visible if you're in the New York network, and she's been getting new friends every day. She became friends with Aliana Lohan yesterday (must be her sister's fb name), and today she became friends with Sarah Godshaw (actress), Lauren Hastings (the model she reportedly stole clothes from), and Lisette Sand-Freedman (pr exec). If it's a fake account, it's EXTREMELY good because most of her friends have 400-600 friends each themselves. Lindsay also must be very open about her relationship with Sam among her friends if she's calling her account Lindsay Ronson. I feel like a bit of a stalker, but I must admit I like having Lindsay Lohan on my facebook! Haha.

Also, I'm curious as to when they started their relationship. Does anyone have an idea of how long they've been together?

While Lohan appears to have imbibed Saturday night, video by TMZ shows she wasn't plastered as she returned "home" with Ronson (some photos suggested she was but most didn't).  So why the drinks all of a sudden.  It appears along with being parent related (the primary cause), it's some jealousy too.

BritishLily, if we see Linds hanging around a man it definitely will be phony romance time.  Linds and Sam have an interesting dynamic.  Sam puts up with the fake boyfriend nonsense but Linds has no patience for women conversing at Sam.  The difference is in their personalities.  Sam is apparently laidback, calm and doesn't mind the drama (though she doesn't partake) while Linds is very emotional and possesive.  As for a real breakup (not some look Linds is with this guy at a club or hand in hand on a beach set up), I don't see it happening anytime soon.  If it happens it will be Sam breaking up with Linds but again Sam has shown the patience of Job (Sam's only outward sign of losing it being that Sunset Blvd argument last May). 

Here's what I see happening. 

1) Linds will be told by her management to take the facebook down.  2) Linds will be told to show up at some event with some obscure man (obscure men are picked because they are the ones willing to play fake boyfriend for some photo ops  3) Us Weekly or People do set up articles on Linds finding happiness with said man  4) She sees Sam whenever she can and once Sam gives up on the romance, Linds sees other women discreetly 5) Only the most naive or slow viewers fall for it it at first   6) Time fades away and either Lohan becomes a has been freeing her to come out of the closet at the age of 36 or Lohan stays a star and comes out at the age of 48.   

Here's what I hope happens.  Linds comes out of the closet and stops this nonsense, once and for all. 

So I happened to be rewatching episode five of this season's L Word yesterday and in the scene where all the actors are introducing themselves I  noticed Niki was wearing aviators and flashed the peace sign. Hmm.. who else do I know that does that a lot?

After reading about the whole Niki/Lindsay theory I couldn't help thinking that was deliberate.

I don't know...I think Lindsay is newly committed to her relationship with Sam and might even come out in the near future. Despite all the press last weekend about her fighting with Ashley Olsen and drinking again, here she is on another weekend away with Sam in Chicago and Las Vegas. If she really cared about what people thought of her being gay/bisexual, she would have stayed home and well away from Sam. I think this is a really positive thing!

Pinka9, I hope so.  I wonder if she was more open on those photos because they were not taken by paparazzi (and she wasn't as concerned about them hitting the net).  It's clear she wants to be with Sam all the time but on the other hand is careful about just being out with it.  The rifts in their relationship over the last few years has always been the latter (even though they always seem to come back to each other).  I prefer the photos you posted to the ones taken yesterday (here's the link).  I hope this has more to do with an anger at the paparazzi.  If Lindsay however is doing this because she is afraid, I'd be a bit worried if I was Sam.

Scout, I think Sam is hot too.  It's interesting that a lot of sites go on about how in the world Linds would find Sam sexy (she would be many a femme's dream) and go into the disparaging stuff (saying they can't tell if she's a man or woman - what nonsense).  If I was a solo woman in Hollywood and ran into her, I'd definitely would be flirting.  Also think Lohan's cute too especially now (freckles!) - especially when she lays off the makeup.

It's clear to me that they were trying to talk in a loud and crowded party...which Ronson was also spinning at, and during which Joel told a reporter that he was planning something nice for Nicole for Mother's Day. Further, Joel seems like a very good guy and he's been tight with Linds and Sam for years, correct? Ronson dropping Lohan off in front of the house is so she can run in without too many photos being taken.  That's what she usually does, then she parks the car and comes in. 

As for Joel Madden, he is extremely tight with Lohan and Ronson.  Ronson and Richie are true BFF's (platonic only - no innuendo) and are always there for each other.  That friendship is now a foursome with the two couples going out to eat and to events together.

Ediana, excellent post, and thank you for the links! Isn't it all just utterly infuriating though -- this atrocious behavior by TMZ and many other gossip outlets? If we (you and I, and People and E!) know better, then they most certainly do too, which makes it all the more maddening.

Now please put my mind at ease about one more thing -- Sam is well known around town to be openly gay, is she not? Why on earth, then, does she insist upon using 'boy' in her song lyrics? It confuses me beyond comprehension. I like her very, very much, but does she seriously think we believe for one instant that she's into boys? Or is this a simple case of wanting distribution and knowning she won't get it if she uses "I wanna taste you, girl" instead of "I wanna taste you, boy"? If so, then that's actually really sad and Hollywood is a crueler place than I thought.

In happier news, what are your thoughts are on the Ronson/Lohan relationship at present time? For me personally, it seems as though something has shifted in these past couple months (for the better!) and even more so in the past couple of days (specifically since Sam got back from Atlantic City). They're not walking apart anymore, and they both just seem much more relaxed and genuinely elated, almost, to be together. Just truly and utterly happy. Look at their faces in these pictures:

Sam did once respond, when caught off-gaurd, with "Are you retarded?" to one paparrazi who asked, but that was a while ago and even then she still didn't say no. She then nervously drank from her can of Red Bull and started walking 5 miles a minute, which kind of answers the question, in my opinion, but then again...I really want them to be a couple, so. =)

I remember when Portia was with Francesca Gregorini...she never hid her...or denied her, persay...but if you don't necessarily acknowledge the person publicly, isn't that a form of denying them anyway? (NOT that they owe it to 'the public' to acknowledge anything...just to the person they're with, I think. But it's a tough, tough spot to be in...in general, and then especially at the age Lindsay's at, and in the business that she's in, and then on top of that, with what she's gone through in the past couple years... I actually really feel for the girl.)

A clearly innocent photo of two people talking being seen as something deeper is nothing new.  Every star in Hollywood understands that a photo printed of them with the opposite sex will be branded as a "Are they hooking up?" shot, no matter the scenario.  It's part of the territory and blogs (like mags) know that many people want heterosexual gossip (Michael Musto wrote an excellent piece recently on how people get upset and defensive at gay gossip). 

I look for something deeper.  For example with Ronson and Lohan, despite plenty of rumors, it was the Memorial Day Weekend and the video footage of it (the tons of stuff since doesn't hurt) that did it.  Once I saw that it was clear as could be this was not just BFF's.   

As for Lohan coming out, this might be the most she comes out (and I do think she is trying to be out while not being out if that makes sense - the Billy Bush interview seemed to hint at that dichotomy) until later in life if ever.  It's a shame but Lohan probably will be put under great pressure to play it straight and soon.  Many straight actresses feel compelled to break up with boyfriends that are their true loves so they can hook up with a big name actor. Being a lesbian or bisexual actress (talking of the Maxim type) is even more pressure filled to mantain a certain image (to combat rumors).  I feel for Lohan too.  I think The L Word this season really captured it with Niki (speculated here and on other sites as possibly based on Lohan) in that an actress is both not hiding and yet is hiding.  It is fascinating and sad stuff. 

The Atlantic City visit (where Lohan had to stay back to work on Ugly Betty) was apparently the first time they were apart in a long time.  When one is away it can cause some heavy duty reflection to go on.  Now I got to catch South of Nowhere in French.

Ms. Lohan is in that truely miserable place for former child stars who are female. She's trying to transition into an adult acting career and into an adult personal life. Like Jodi Foster and Brooke Shields before her, she is separating from her old management - Mom - and moving on to learning the basics of taking care of herself and her career. Unfortunately, she isn't doing this while hiding out in an East Coast college, so all her mistakes are right there for the paps to photograph and plaster all over the interwebs. Add to that to wildly dyfunctional parents, what looks like a pretty serious alcohol addiction, and it's kind of surprising that she's still standing.

She has still has legal problems stemming from the DUI arrest, she has to prove to the entertainment industry that she is stable and reliable if she wants to have any sort of career, and she's still apparently struggling with staying sober. At this point, it could just be that coming out might be seen as one drama too many for someone with a myriad of other, very serious problems. Anybody who decides to extend their stay in rehab clearly has major issues which may well not have been resolved yet.

Taking the Portia di Rossi approach to being out might be a smart move for these two. It keeps the level of gossip low without making them actually lie. And it buys them time to be together without having every move they make as a couple examined on the front page of every tab.

I like the way they are dealing with the paparazzi. Clearly they have not denied each other nor confirmed their status as an item. The Important thing about this whole thing is that they seem happy. In my opinion I think that liloh is starting to gain some balance in her life and clearly samantha is a crucial person in that balance. Check this video its all smiles:

Andrea20, I'm with you.  Saying Samantha Ronson is a lesbian is like saying Elton John is gay.  Silly people still say Elton is gay and it's ridiculous.  After all, he wrote all those songs about women and he was even married to a woman. Why do people go there with Samantha.  Just because Lindsay Lohan called her her girlfriend in front of Ashley Olson and just because Lohan has called her a lesbian during their spats and there were those supposed MySpace love letters and Lohan calls herself Lindsay Ronson on her facebook and sources in those magazines and tabloids say they are living and sleeping together...well I just don't get it either.   After all she wrote songs about boys when she tried to make it in the pop business in the early 2000's.  Thanks for clearing up that Ronson is a lesbian nonsense.  I don't know what I was thinking pondering Ronson and Lohan are a couple (well besides everything pointing to it). 

BTW, I love Ronson's cover of Boys Don't Cry.  More proof what with boys being in the title.  And those magazines all lie...why they said Rosie, Ellen, and Portia were lesbians.  Yeah, right.  

On a serious note, while Samantha's soft butch appearance may give a sense of lesbian vibe (and may play some part in people pondering these two being a couple - if you check prior posts though her look is not brought up much at all), there are a variety to how people of sexual orientations look (and that includes lesbian).

Sam and Lindsay seem to have maken up from their fights last week (but don't these two always have spats).  I wonder if this one is over Sam being seen with a famous actress in NY. While Lindsay really looked mad at Sam when they first arrived in Paris the tide has turned.

At first, I was getting a little concerned watching the footage of them in Paris, as Lindsay didn't look happy at all. But now it really seems as though the tide has turned and they seem very close and content -- maybe more than ever. That last pic is so beyond cute, w/Lohan resting her head on Sam's shoulder. And it's clearly genuine. I truly have never seen a picture of Lindsay like that with any man. I've only ever seen choreographed 'beach' shots, to which even my sister said, "What movie are those stills from?" (And she wasn't trying to be sarcastic.)

This relationship is clearly different (mainly because it's, you know, real), and I'm happy for her but also worried, because I don't think she could handle a heartbreak. Speaking of which, Ediana, concerning Sam's trip to NY -- do you think something happened btwn her and Jodie Foster? (Especially now with the news that Foster has ended her relationship.) I just don't understand why she didn't tell Lindsay about it. Well I guess whatever happened or didn't happen, at least it's in the past now, and the two are happily enjoying the present.
