March Madness, anyone? Women's NCAA tournament?I just wanted to throw something out there in hopes of getting a response from anyone else in the universe who loves women's basketball, or even just basketball in general. Brackets? Banter? There is so little information about the WNBA available, and even less about NCAA teams/players. Does anyone know of any decent websites that offer more than just numbers and stats? I vote that the lesbian community rallies around women's sports in order to force better press coverage! I'm tired of being one of the only women at ESPN Zone (not including waitresses). Did anyone catch the Xavier/Temple game?

I am a basketball fan
Yay, ACC!
March is the best time of the year
I'm so excited for the tournaments to start and be able to watch a basketball anytime. I am a bit down tonight because my Sooner girls lost in the first round of the big 12 tournament, we are playing so bad right now. But on a positive not Courtney Paris got her 90th double-double in a row. She is so incredible.
So how do all the Tennessee fans feel about Candace Parker leaving early for the WNBA?
Excited!
Well, she is a senior, so she really is leaving right on time. She simply has one year left of eligibility because she red-shirted her freshman year. I think she's ready for the big show. She'll be joining Lisa Leslie in L.A. if all goes as assumed. Of course, I'm more excited that my girl Becky Hammon signed a contract extension with the Stars :).
Patient: There's like this longing ... this pull. I mean, does that make me, you know, like, some kind of...?
Maeby: Homosexual.
Tobias: Maeby, please. She's right, though, you probably are a homosexual.Becky Hammon
TENNESSEE!!
I may be a "carolina girl," but when it comes to women's basketball, I bleed Tennessee orange. Pat Summitt and her motley crew are the best thing to happen to women's sports since Title IX, and their victory over LSU in the SEC Tournament Championship game gave them a lock on one of the #1 seeds for the tournament. UConn, UNC and Stanford will likely get the other three, with Rutgers and Maryland missing out on the opportunity with losses in their own conferences' tournaments. Who saw those losses coming?!?
Can't wait til the selections come out on Monday!

Lady Vols
I'm excited for this year's tournament; repeat for the Vols!. I'm hoping someone takes UConn out early - that's my Lady Vols fan side of me talking. But so far the conference tournament match-ups have been great. Hard to see Temple go down, but they'll bounce back in the big dance. And Stanford is looking good, but what happened to Cal? And Louisville came out of nowhere as well - the Big East looks interesting. The selection show is on Monday and I can't wait.

No Vols!! lol - I'm just kiddin' gotta cheer for the SEC. I'm upset w/ Women's bball here at Kentucky - I think the Mickie DeMoss thing was more of a scandal than the media played it out to be... She was replaced by a male coach .. part of the nationwide trend to get rid of female coaches of collegiate female teams... ask for too much equality I suppose... it's a shame.
The coaching "scandal" is not the players' fault though - so, Go Cats!
Lots of March Madness Photos & More to Come
Hey - Thought some of you women's basketball fans might enjoy a lot of the photos on the website I work for. I am currently sorting through UConn-Louisville Big East Championship photos at I type. Here is a link to a series of NCAA game galleries. Lots of women's basketball in there. Lots. Would love to hear your comments! Enjoy.

Love me some hoops
I'm a huge women's baskeball fan. Not really of any one particular team these days, mostly just the Big 12. (I used to be a Stanford nut, but they have kind of lost my love in recent years. One too many seasons of underachieving, I guess.)
Is anyone going to the Final Four in Tampa? That should be a good time. If you've never been to one, I highly, highly recommend it. Great basketball, and women EVERYWHERE.
Love the sig, FilmGrrl. :)
Thanks!
Like your handle!
I'm watching the Big 12 tournament as I type. Texas surprising Baylor (go Coach G!), and the Iowa State-Kansas State game was terrific.

The Big 12 tournament is turning out to be just as crazy as the season was. The Baylor-Texas game was crazy last night. Texas scoring over 50 points in the second half. I am so glad Coach G came to the Big 12 to add another strong program. I am a Kim-Mulkey fan but it was good to see Texas and Coach G get that big win. I am excited for the Texas-OSU game.
I went to the Final Four when OU made it awhlie back in San Antonio. OKC is hosting a regional and I already bought tickets in anticipation that OU would get that path, but the way we have been playing it doesn't look good. But it will still be amazing games to watch so I am excited.
Tampa is gonna be insaaaane!
I'm still determining if I can take off enough time to make it down there or not, but my friends and I already have decent tickets. I've never been to a final four, but I've been to several first round games and a few sweet sixteens. While regular season games don't really draw huge crowds (except for maybe Tennessee, correct me if I'm wrong), during tournament time all the gay girls come out to play! It becomes a total meat market! Not that I'm complaining, it's great to see that kind of support for women's athletics. I've taken friends before and they are always surprised that there is so little coverage of these events, even in lesbian communities; I guess its just tribal knowledge or something.
Iowa/Kansas, definitely! Iowa/TX A&M should be one to watch. Temple's loss made me cringe; but maybe that will piss them off enough to bring their Philly attitude and scrappiness to the tourney (they have to get a bid, come on). The Big East has been all over the place this year. UConn, no big surprise. But Louisville really held their own. You just can't underestimate those Huskies (Sorry FilmGrrl).
ACC mens . . .
And...
Now they're in a dogfight with Carolina for the championship...
Dean Smith said it's very hard to beat a good team three times...maybe the Tar Heels will get that lesson.
Also, I don't know what it is about Duke and the post-season. Their team just doesn't seem to respond like they used to...

Goooooooooo Tar Heels!!!!!!!!!

This is a pretty good site, though we still have a long way to go to equal the men's coverage.
Women's Selection Show
Man, who are these idiots who set this system up? Rutgers and UConn might have to play in the Elite Eight? WTF.
The Women's Bracket is definitely lackluster this year.

Stanford-Tennessee
Did anyone guess that? I sure as hell didn't...
Stanford schooled UConn tonight. That was crazy. It reminded me of the Kansas-UNC matchup from the men's tournament the night before.
When I found out Candace Wiggins won the POY award over Candace Parker, I was like, wtf? But tonight she reminded me of why she totally deserved it.
And the LSU-Tennessee game? Geez...it was either the best defensive game I've ever seen or the worst offensive game I've ever seen.
LSU needed someone else to step up and score, but it didn't happen--I think Sylvia Fowles scored half LSU's points.
And yet they still almost won...but Alexis Hornbuckle slid in their and capitalized on that last second offensive rebound...wow.
Can't wait to see the finals of both the men's and women's tournaments.

I really wish
I could watch the women's tournament, but they're only broadcasting the men's here in Canada.
However I do follow as well as I can and was shocked to find that the Cardinals pulled it off. A Cards-Vols final should be pretty good. I hope they'll show the highlights up here (at the very least!).
I also followed the men's (which I actually got to watch! lol) and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing that one as well! I think I'm pulling for Kansas, though that's mainly because I'm still bitter that the Tigers knocked off the Horns.. lol
Oh, and as an aside, still on the men's side, I just have to mention how much I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Heels get their asses handed to them ;)
