"Violet and Claire"

I was just wondering. Has anyone read the book "Violet and Claire"? I usually go on Pinkbooks.com, where i pick out books i want to read. If you don't know, they are LGBT books. So anyway, i got that book from that website but....OMG. It had nothing to do with being gay. I thought it really sucked. I mean it's a great book but it just doesn't belong on that website...i think.  Tell me what you think

Probably doesn't belong...

Violet and Claire is not a a book that belongs on LGBT website. It is a story about two friends who rely on each other, but there is no romantic involvement. The author, Franchesca Lia Block is really LGBT friendly though.

I read it and..

I really can see why someone would think it belonged on an LGBT book website. Violet and Claire are never described as lesbians, but I can see why a reader would interpret the intensity of their friendship as being actually a romantic relationship.

It is a great book;

I, too, originally purchased it with false hopes, but then I love Francesca Lia Block, so it evened out.  I see several LBGT topics in the YA section nowadays, which is great because there are a lot of young people going through these issues.  You should check out Girl Goddess #9, a collection of her short stories. It covers a wide range of topics like transpeople & lesbians ("Dragons in New York"), interracial couples, casual drug use and also abuse (thus showing the difference, I think that one was "Rave"), gay/straight friendships...  definitely worth reading in my opinion, unless you just don't care for her style.
