Can we have it back please?

It makes PMing much easier....not to mention I like stalking seeing what and where my buddies post.

Pretty PLEASE??!!

With sugar on top?  If the avatar pics are taking up too much room, maybe we could just have a written name list of our buddies on our page to locate them?

Does a buddy cease to be a buddy...

...just because the list naming the buddy is removed? *wink*

Indeed

I agree. It was so nice to have it and I loved seeing my buddy's faces!

The Buddy List was Removed,Why?

The buddylist was a way of connecting to other womyn on this site. WTF? Geez, AE.com sure know how to give a heads up on things before it happens. I thought it was cool to have celesbians on my buddylist. Sometimes I like checking on people haven't heard in a while and just send them 'hey you're still breathing? I haven't heard from you in a while ' message, you know.

Buddylist update

Don't worry, the buddylist hasn't been removed, we just temporarily disabled it yesterday because the site was slowing to a crawl, and it turns out the buddylist was somehow playing a large role in that (something about too many calls to the database). We're working on a way to re-enable it in the next day or so that will hopefully not put as much strain on the server.

Thank You!

For the update, Sarah!  ;-)

Phew

Thank you for the explanation Sarah.  I do hope you can come up with a solution.

Yours was one of the many smiling faces I was missing.

Hmmm...

Thank you for letting us know the situation, Ms. Warn.
(May I call you Sarah? ;-) )

Quite frankly, it doesn't surprise me that the buddy lists are putting a strain on the server, since each buddy has such a large photo...and many people have such long buddy lists.

Over the past few months, I've started limiting my buddy list and anyone who sends a buddy request that I fail to "accept" should not take it personally. I used to accept everyone, because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I finally drew the line. I decided only to accept buddies who I actually conversed with (either via PM or on threads).

Some buddy requests have come from people who have no comments/information on the site. I consider these people to be complete strangers (although I still feel a twinge of guilt when I don't accept the request).

Well, I just thought this was a good opportunity to talk about "buddy lists." Just a few moments ago, I wanted see if my U.K. buddies were online, but was unable to do so.
Hmmm...
I guess I'll just have watch for their posts.
;-)

Edit: As soon as I finished posting...I noticed that the buddy lists were back! Thank you!

Buddylists and performance

We will be rolling out some new and improved code today that should make it possible to keep this site chugging along even with buddylist turned on during the heavy L-Word recap afternoons :-) You can all take some pride in the fact that your avid readership and close community can make a very fast, high-performance database server buckle. We're trying to keep up with you the best we can!

Thank you so much for all that you do to KEEP us "up and running"...
