It must be Black History Month when...
It must be Black History Month when...sometime between 11am and 12pm(afternoon)today on ABC(network TV) during break time from The View, a commercial for Pantene Pro-V's Relaxed or Natural airs. The commercial features brown (literally) models. It should be noted that this commercial features a product (Pantene Pro-V Relaxed or Natural) aimed at "women of color". (I guess this means that all the other products in the Pantene collection are for "women of noncolor"lol).
It also happens that The View currently has 2 brown hosts (out of 4 regulars) and this commercial with brown persons came on right after a segment with another brown person (Tyra Banks).
Maybe I have too much time on my hands...but I never see a commercial with brown people, advertising a product for brown people unless it is on BET, TV One or during breaks from shows with mostly brown cast on The CW/My 9/UPN etc....
This could be a sign of progress...and/or a sign that Black History Month cometh.
Hee-larious
Venus & Serena say...
(I guess this means that all the other products in the Pantene collection are for "women of noncolor"lol).
ROTF!!!
Bookstores put out books by Black Authors
two weeks before February like they haven't been in the stores all that time.
I love the Pantene comment. I noticed that too.
"Do I have to dial 9 to call 911?"(This quote was shared to me by a nursewho was talking about her then 14 year old daughter who asked her mom while the father was having a heat stroke)
When Maya Angelou is on yet another PBS ...
... show about our super special legacies , hosted yet again by Henry Gates. I can't really articulate what bugs me so much about this; I watched last year's version and nearly put something heavy through my boob tube. It was the part when Oprah Winfrey talked about sensing her African ancestors were Zulus. Zulus???? Huh??? Apparently even though the woman has been to South Africa, she didn't bother to look at a map before she went or maybe she would have noticed the vast geographic distance between where the Zulu people live and the slave trade ports on the west coast (Senegal, for example). C'mon sister, having money is not an excuse for not thinking things through!
The only reasons I am going to watch this thing is Morgan Freeman (Dear Mr. Freeman, Marry Me!) and Bliss Broyard who has had some very frank (read: blistering) things to say about her father's passing for white and his failure to advocate for black folks in the arts. As someone who's family tree looks like it got pruned by the Golly Green Giant due to all the folks passing, I'm interested to hear from someone who doesn't think that was such a good idea.
when the food network..
gives the Neely Family their own show and states they are the south's first family of bbq, there is no Bobby Flay around and no Food Challenges taking place....I wonder if the Neely's will run out of things to cook before Feb.28, or if a person of color will challenge one of the Iron Chefs?...just a thought..
i'm not sure if that's my gaydar or my fire alarm ringing but,its hot as hades in here......."ladyj"
anyone else notice
if anyone here has listened to the Tom Joyner Morning Show and they have the daily black history moment from McDonald's...
why do they have the drum/tribal music in the background? i always have a slight 'wtf' moment over that.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
It must be black history month when
HBO shows "Shaft in Africa"
commercials start playing neo soul in the background
I am asked by co workers if I'm going to watch ROOTS tonight
EVERYTHING AND EVERYWHERE IS DRAPED IN KENTE CLOTH
I'm approached and asked if I need help at Neiman Marcus
some stupid network is still using the Tyrese coca cola commercial as a tribute to black history month
love is need of love 2day..so love!
LMAO!
@ the Neiman Marcus comment! Hilarious.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
Well
The writers' strike precludes the obligatory black guest star on an otherwise all-white TV show, I guess...

It Must Be Black History Month When...
----An award show comes on(the NAACP Image Awards) on network TV and most of the nominees and winners are black.
---Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is on PBS helping black folks discover their roots!
When Jesse and Angie reunite!
Call me cynical, but c'mon - the first Black supercouple in soap opera histroy reunite after, what, twenty years - now?
Don't get me wrong, Debbie Morgan's my girl (note to self: netflix "Eve's Bayou" again) and props to the back in day version of "All My Chittlins" for actually REAL, LIVE Black folk in a major, long running storyline. But really, having them back now? Yes, yes - I know, sweeps and all - but still ...
Sidenote: Just how broke is Mario Van Peeples that he's on AMC????
