The New New Flirting Thread

The Flirting Thread started when two AE members kept having flirtatious "conversations" on other threads. Someone was kidding around and commented on it, so one of the members started a thread just for those conversations. As the thread started to find a direction...it became a place for "playing." In a way...it could probably best be described now as a "Free-For-All/Chat" thread, but...with a flirtatious spin now and then.

The people who enjoy this thread stick with it. At times, it may seem confusing, but...those who stay with it have developed some close friendships (and more ;-) ).

It's generally a "happy place", and yet (as with most friendships) there are occasional "mood swings."

This thread is about connection. It's a place to visit and "shoot the breeze" with some fun people.

This "ugly bridesmaid dress" photo was from Uglydress.com which is an "archive of the world's worst Bridesmaids dresses." It's hilarious!

The worst bridesmaid dress that I ~~was ever subjected to~~ ever wore was a peach-colored southern-style dress with a hoop skirt! ACK!

Just cause I have the opportunity to entice you some facts on how hawt harpies are...

A Harpy is a Greco-Roman mythological creature with the lower body, wings and claws of a bird and the chest and head of a woman, often portrayed as very ugly and loathsome.

Harpies were fierce, extremely ill tempered, and lived in an atmosphere of filth and stench, contaminating everything they came near. They are associated with the wind, ghosts and the underworld. Their chief employer was Hades who sent them to bear away by force and bring to Tartarus those who were unwilling to die. But they also did vengeful errands-for the other gods.

In a famous Argonaut story they tormented a king named Phineus who had incurred the wrath of a god. They swooped down at his table and snatched his food before he could eat it; they defecated in his plate. Phineus would have starved to death or killed himself but he was rescued by the Argonauts Zetes and Calais, who drove away the Harpies and, some say, killed them.

So sad. :(

The Harpy could also bring life. A Harpy was the mother by the West Wind Zephyros of the horses of Achilles (Iliad xvi. 160).

Though Hesiod (Theogony) calls them two "lovely-haired" creatures, Harpies as beautiful winged bird-women (..)

You're right about the Wiki entry though. Originally the Harpies were described as beautiful and at some point the mythology changed for some reason. Just women getting the short end of the stick, I guess. But I tend to focus on the darker side of the mythology. It just seems more interesting to me.

So go figure, I've always liked evil female mythological figures. I just think women are beautiful and it's different to think of women as hideous, despised creatures who deficate on people's food. It just amuses me overall because it's such a silly notion.

And yeah, I so haven't listened to really any of the State of the Union.

Arpias, huh? Awesome, I had not seen that spelling before! And oddly, I played an online game years ago and one of the characters I played with was named Amalthea.

Maybe I should have tried Arpias for my car license place. Seriously, how could Harpy be taken!? Of course, then it might have been assumed I spoke Spanish.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find bilinguality (is that a word?) astounding? I really don't think I could learn another language, though I really would like to. In my head I just cannot imagine myself being able to do it and speak/write it as well as I would like.

Whether it's a word or not, I have trouble pronouncing it lol. Learning a different language shouldn't be hard, it just takes up some time. I guess if English is your first language it's harder to stay in touch with another language because nearly everyone speaks English.

I have the same problem with French and other languages except English and my own language. I spent 7 years learning French, but if I have to start talking, it will probably take me 5 minutes to form a sentence, because I am not used to speaking it anymore. But practice makes perfect I guess heh.

Oh and hi everyone *waves* don't think I've been on this part of AE yet.
