I never read the book, but there was a bar in New Orleans a few years back that shared the name. The bar was fabulous!

Read the book! I'm the central character! (Not that I'm full of myself or anything). ;)

I read it in the late 70s...

...I had my daughter in 1978 and was very unhappy living a heterosexual life (I wasn't married). I felt like I was living a lie and I was. I bought the book at my local drug store and read it and read it again. That book gave me the courage I needed to just come out and live my life as it should be lived, with women.

I am thankful everyday that I found that book. Thank you Rita Mae, for that gift!

Yep

I read it once in college and once again more recently.  It's pretty interesting.  In some ways, I didn't care for it all that much but in others, I related quite a bit.  I found it to be pretty realistic.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for here but yes, I've read it lol.  Come to think of it, I let a friend of mine borrow it a while ago and she hasn't returned it yet...

That said, I liked her book Alma Mater better.  It's kind of a messed up story but I enjoyed it more.

RubyFruit Jungle One of My Fav Books of All Times

I defintely read Rubyfruit Jungle when I was 19years old as a freshman in college. The book by Rita Mae Brown was part of a curriculum in a freshmen womyn only course. I'm so glad during that time I was exposed to it and tons of other LGBTQI stuff. I was blessed to attend a liberal private university. Also, during that time I've  gone on to read other Rita Mae Brown books . I have to say RFJ is one of my favorite books by RMB and  of all times.

Did I ever say I would play nice?-Miss Ketina

Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown

This book was her first official book. Rubyfruit was the second of her books that I read. It was one of my absolute favourites. I started reading it in Chapters (Canadian version of Borders). Within the first three chapters I had been to both extremes of emotion: Laughed til I hurt and cried out of sadness. Rita Mae Brown wrote an awesome book. I recommend most, if not all of her books. Six of One and it's sequel, Bingo, are hysterically funny. I haven't read the next sequel, Loose Lips, but I'm sure it will delight. Venus Envy is another wonderful feel-good novel. Southern Discomfort goes to an unexpected place, but is a marvelous book. Rita Mae Brown is one of my all-time favourite authors, right along with Sarah Waters. They both write well and bring their characters to life. 5 Stars to them both and their books!

Ruby Fruit Jungle

It must have been one of the first Lesbian books I ever read, and it made an impact. A true Classic.
