American Idol Season 7

So far I'm really digging this season of American Idol.  I was one of the ones who stopped watching in the middle of last season because it was just boring.  No one really stood out last season also.  Hopefully this season is different but...

I'm honestly even enjoying these beginning episodes where they showcase the good and bad.  Last season I was tired of seeing so many bad singers making fools of themselves... But man, tonight's (Wednesday night's) episode had me cracking up.  Especially that last guy who kept singing "You are my brother, best friends forever" to Simon.  That was awesome.  I'm sure that will be a highlight on YouTube and elsewhere tomorrow.  :D

Idol's back!

"We're Brothers Forever" is actually a pretty catchy song, I must say.  There are like a billions covers on YouTube already.  I also love the Stalker Guy -- Paul something.  The "Peter Falk" and the "bathtub caulk" lines were hilarious!  The Tobias Funke lookalike was funny too.  But I think those were all plants as they were all overage.

I hope this season will be better than last season but it seems like they're looking for a Carrie Underwood 2.0.  Most of the females so far are like clones of her.

Does she set off anyone else's gaydar? She's got that style and swagger that we all love s so much...

Am I crazy?!?

Here's a link to her original audition:

girl's got gaydar

NO- you're not crazy.  As soon as I saw Alexandrea my gaydar went: woah! Then I voted for her about 10 times, because American Idol needs more queer content. (ryan doesn't count...I'm pretty sure he's a robot)

She's only 16, so I'm not sure if she's realized that she's gay yet. We should break the news to her gently.

;)

Thanks for the confirmation. I went through the blogosphere shortly after the top 12 girls performed, thinking that there HAD to be people talking about it. I was shocked when I couldn't find anything!

oh well, glad I'm not alone!

I know I'm not suppose to make assumptions, but if Danny Noriega is really gay. He deserves to be a honorary sister, thus getting my vote and support. You go girl! *snap snap*, work it!

Amanda Overmeyer

This season is pretty good so far, but I think they were way too harsh on Amanda Overmyer last night about her outfit and hair.  Personally, I thought it was way hot.

Lesbian "Idol"

Apparently, cute little Ramielle Malubay is a hard core lesbian. ;)
kezbo4life06's picture

Ramiele..Lesbian...

NO! Seriously the media is so dumb sometimes. These kids get on the show and they start digging up info on them hoping to find something good. Well what they found on Ramielle was shit. I love her she is my favorite and would totally dig it if she was gay cause she is very very cute and totally my type BIG TIME. But all the media is pinning this whole lesbian thing on is two pics from her Facebook. In one she is covering her mouth and two of her friends are grabbing each of Ramiele boobs. And the other she is grabbing the boob of a female co-worker is a fun and flirty pose. Seriuosly?!?!? Every straight girl I went to High School with have pics like this on their Myspace or Facebook. People are stupid.

So yeah when my mom said something about hearing about her on the news I was like Uhhh really OH YESSS. So thinking I was going to get a hell of a story and find out my fav cute girl was gay. I got these two simple pics. I was soo bummed lol!

American Idol

Brooke White all the way tonight.  By far the best performance.

This season is great, I've voted (I usually don't vote) for 5 different performers so far.  Amanda was pretty hot tonight too, but Brooke won in my book.  Chikezie, Brooke, Amanda and Carley were the best tonight.

American Idol

Well, this American Idol made me feel old.  Choose a top song from the year you were born.  Looking up 1976, I see the most popular choices would be 'Play That Funky Music' or 'Shake Your Booty'.  Well wouldn't those songs be a gem...

Anyway, David Cook won me over tonight.  Though I loved all of the Sting/Police songs (my favorite artist), but he's been consistant in creating his own version of the songs he's performed.  I thought Brooke did pretty good with 'Every Breath You Take' -- But definitely better at the beginning.

Carly did good with 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' for the most part too.  The beginning and ending were great, but the middle - Yeah, not so much.

I'm on the David Cook bandwagon now.  I hope for good things from Carly and Brooke next week.

Apparently I am talking to myself now but...

I thought Syesha did a great job with 'I Will Always Love You' tonight.  I don't think the judges were fair to her at all.  I mean, she obviously doesn't have a voice like Whitney, so she saved her voice to the end while staying true to the original version in the middle and beginning.

Only Randy really acknowledged the risk she took in singing it too.  Yes, Whitney's rendition was absolutely amazing, and going up against that was a big risk.  I don't think it's always necessary to compare though.  So, she got my votes tonight.  :)

American Idol

Do you think that American Idol is getting, well, just a little boring?  I mean don't get me wrong, I love watching still, but it just seems like it's getting a bit redundant.  At least the judges comments anyway.

carolinagrrrl's picture

you're not alone!

Don't worry, you are NOT talking to yourself! :)

I was actually quite surprised by last night's show. I didn't expect to like Syesha or Kristy Lee, and I did. I expected to want to go purchase an engagement ring for Brooke, and I didn't. I guess it just goes to show you that this season is still very much up for grabs.

(And, PS--Where did Michael Johns come from? He's been rockin' these past two weeks!)

American Idol

Kimberly, it's not just you.  It is the same (as is all reality shows) which is why I think people vote more on who they like rather than week to week performances, which to each their own.  I mean, last season I was bored out of my mind because there wasn't anyone I liked.  Now, there's Brooke.  I LOVE her, like a lot, no matter what she does.  And this is why I don't believe in Idol at all.

The judges keep telling her (and Jason) to step out of her "box" or whatever but that's her thing.  She's indie-folk, "singer-songwriter", if you will.  After Idol, she's not going to have theme weeks.  She's going to do her thing with her own songs, her guitar and piano and she'll do fine.  Which is also why I don't want her to win.  I want her to be DAUGHTRY!, basically, go out Top 5-ish and get that recognition.  I've seen some of her songs on YouTube (she's really likable and looks much more confortable than on Idol) and they're really good.  Much better than what Idol will make her do if she were to win (which I don't think because, see Archuleta, David).

I don't think it should be about how many units you're selling or who has the better voice.  It's the music and I don't see why it has to be a huge competition all the time which is what Idol and Simon seem to gravitate towards.  Brooke should just go play the Hotel Cafe tour like Josiah Leming.  She would be awesome. [/end of rant, sorry! :)]

But yeah, the judges.  They say the same thing week after week.  Randy only has like 5 phrases to choose from, Paula is...what's in her drink? and Simon is the same.

felinette's picture

American Idol

Paula is the judge guaranteed to praise, Randy is middle-of-the-road, and Simon snarks unless he really, really liked the performance. You can tell that nobody really listens to Paula when they're being judged. They smile politely. I've noticed that if Paula didn't like a performance, she'll praise how a performer looked. That's her way of saying someone sucked.

As for this season's idols, I hate to say it, but the guys are so much more interesting this year. Carly is the most interesting female. I think it may come down to a battle between the two Davids.

Gobias Somecoffee's picture

AI-Judges

lol Paula is just....there. Most of the time she can't even form coherent thoughts but at least her "you sucked" is disguised in "you look nice."  It makes me feel better about the ones I like because, yeah, they did look nice, that's good, rather than Randy's "ummm, yeah, that was alright, yeah, dawg, kinda pitchy for me, you know."  I think Simon has a lot of influence over the voters though which is a little scary since he's so performance based.

Yeah, I totally agree that it'll come down to a David/David finale.  Both of their fanbases are huge.  Brooke's fanbase, I thought was big but then this Bottom 3 thing happened so I don't know anymore.  I'd be happy if she makes Top 5 and goes out.  I think that'd be a good spot.  Could you really see David Cook making an Idol album though?  Him singing "This Is My Now Part II" would be amusing though.

EmiliaJS.'s picture

AI

I totally agree with felinette. The guys are more interesting this season. They are better that's a fact. But, as for females, my vote goes to Carly. I love that girl, I think she has what it takes. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Brooke as well. If she doesn't make it, I'm sure she'll still score big. But, either way, the best ones usually get record deals either way right? Or most of the time that is.

EmiliaJS.'s picture

AI

Oh and regarding Simon, you just love to hate that guy. Haven't you noticed that he's usually the toughest on the best ones?

felinette's picture

Brooke

Brooke is alright (dawg), but I'd prefer that she not talk so much to the judges. She kind of babbles over them. As for the guys, I've never understood the appeal of Jason. I just don't get him at all. Simon is tough on the good ones, yeah, and he's the one everyone wants to impress. Would AI be the same without him?

Gobias Somecoffee's picture

Re: Brooke, Jason

Brooke does babble but I find that cute.  It's endearing to me.  She did it after "Let It Be" too so I don't think it was just after "bad" performances.  I was watching her "Say Goodbye" song on YouTube and she babbled a lot before she sung the song, which to me, I think that's just her.  I don't think she's fake.  I don't know.  My love for her, admittedly, is huge. =)

I like Jason since I like that type of music but he seems to be the male Brooke and I don't mind that.  They don't have that big of a voice but they do their thing.  I, personally, find it more interesting when they play instruments so that works for Jason, to me.  And I think a lot of people find him really cute.

I like Simon but sometimes his digs are not about singing, like fashion with Carly.  Maybe he speaks in code too?  He really shouldn't be taking from Paula's cup. =P

Harpy's picture

Brooke

I agree, I don't mind the babbling at all.  Years ago before Sarah McLachlain was big, I saw her perform in Atlanta and she'd just carry on a conversation with the audience.  Everyone just loved it.  I think Brooke would be the same way and receive a similiar response.

So what did y'all think about tonight's show?

Pretty uneven, I thought.

Really Liked: David A., Carly (even though she did kinda lose it a bit). At least Simon didn't tell her she looks like a bag lady this week.

Was just okay for me, Dawg: David Cook (I didn't like the "Give Back" on the hand--seemed like he was pimping for votes), Brooke, Cristy (though I agree with the judges that she did better than usual tonight),

Unfortunately Missed: the first three (Jason, Michael Johns, Sayesha), so can't comment.

How about you?

Its still on at the moment

Its still on at the moment just had Carly perform. Yeah so far no one has been amazing yet. I liked Syesha and Jason Castro so far. David, Kristy and Michael were OK, Carly wasn't great.

David Archuleta was OK, not his best and Brooke was OK, nobody was really amazing this week to be honest

is hella good....plus he looks like my friends little brother lol. yeah carly wasn't that good today but she's still one of the better singers on the show....plus she's hot so that helps.

Colour me surprised. I thought Syesha and Cristy would be voted off before Michael Johns. I guess his performance on Tuesday really bombed.

AI - Shock boot

I knew something "shocking" was going to happen because I read the reports from Nigel. It was either David Cook, which too big of a fanbase" or Michael Johns. Nigel said that it was going to be someone at the "top." But what Ryan said to him, his "Last year for IGB we didn't send anyone home" speech and then he eliminated him was so brutal.

Next week, I think, should be Mariah week. It's going to be interesting.

And who is voting for Syesha? There has been zero buzz about her and yet she's still there.

felinette's picture

Brutal

Yeah, Ryan was pretty brutal, giving the guy some hope and then snatching it away. The other thing I've always thought is brutal is making them sing right after they find out they're eliminated.

So Cristy has buzz? I have to admit, I like her attitude.

I hadn't read any comments, so I didn't know it was going to be a "shocker".

Gobias Somecoffee's picture

Re: AI

Yeah, I read an interview with Amanda Overmeyer and she said that she forgot the first line to her song when she was eliminated. Come to think of it, people have handled it pretty well with lyrics and such.

Kristy Lee Cook has plenty of buzz. She sang God Bless The USA which created a lot of talk. And she's been compared to Sanjaya and Carmen. There's been stuff about her. But Syesha, Tivo predicted she was going to be voted off because people FFed through her performances the most.

Can you believe...

Carly went home!! Omg! She was sooooo good last night. Jason or Brooke should've left, but they were suprisingly safe. And between Syesha and Carly, Syesha should've gone, even though I think she was the best last night, Carly has continuously been awesome.

Lame.

felinette's picture

No, I couldn't believe...

Yeah, that was quite a shock. I thought Carly and Syesha were the best this week, but there they were, the bottom two. The show has always been a popularity contest rather than a talent contest, but I hate being blatantly reminded of that. Brooke has got to go--the girl is falling apart. She's only there now because she's getting sympathy votes. With Carly gone, it's a lot less interesting--just crown one of the Davids already!
