HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray... We Have A Winner!!!!
Warner just defined the format war January 4th, in 14-18 months when
Paramount and Universal contracts expire HD-DVD format will no longer
exist. Sadly I have bought and x-box and purchased an Hd-dvd player. So I'm Mad! But in my opinion x-box will be releasing an external Blu-ray Player in the future. Submitted by Tara (78 posts) on January 7, 2008 - 4:31pm. |

It will affect all of us
It will affect all of us eventually, as more people buy HD sets and will want a true Hi Def experience when they rent and purchase movies. For now, though, all of the major studios will probably still be releasing films and TV shows in standard format DVDs for awhile. This will hit those of us who have already purchased an HD-DVD format player and purchased HD-DVDs for it (I have blu-ray too so not that big of a deal) the hardest. Personally, I didn't really have a preference, but I figured blu-ray would win out on the popularity of the PS3 alone. That's how I came by my blu-ray player.
Personally I like having both formats. For those of us who swear by HD, there will be some films you just will not be able to view on HD unless you have both formats until the studios solve this for good and agree on one protocol. Plus, you can rent both from Netflix for no extra charge so I think it's worth it, especially if you're a gamer and will already have consoles.
Standard dvd sales have
Standard dvd sales have dropped significantly! Apple said they are looking into Blu-Ray Drives for all of their Mac's soon. So I think the war is over.
