A Black L Word? What if there were a black version of the L word?i think it would be good. It would showcase the distinct flavor of the black lesbian expereince and what happens in black lesbian circles. it would also broaden what people think of when they think of black lesbians.what would be great is if the show included women from the whole of the black diaspora (USA, Caribean, Latina, bi-racial,living in Europe), and women of all ages, and all identities (femme, gender-blender,aggressive/butch).It would still contain the campy funniness of the original L word but starring women of color.I would love for it to be set in NY or Atlanta. What do you all think?i know the chances of it actually happening are slim.But...we can dream can't we?lol

That would be real nice to
like da chances of a black man leading America, thats da chance we have of a black lesbian show and we knw BET wont do it.
A long way...
Well...
It would be nice...on Jengo Tv there is a 10 minute snippet about black lesbian relationships. However, it really isn't diverse enough. If there is a black L word,I hope it's better than the original series.
I want to see more diversity of womyn period on television. I'm so sick of the same female archtypes written about womyn in television over and over and over; it's so boring. Then again, I get bored easily.
Nice idea though.
I think it would work but...
You would need the right script, network, actors, etc. Noah's Arc seems to have done well.
But, it shouldn't be just be african-american. All women of color should be included. I know women of color who don't watch the L word because it seems so foreign. Most assume it's just another white show because they have never actually seen it. Let's not even talk about Exes & Ohs.
http://RoseRollinsFanBlog.Blogspot.com
Agreed re: all women of color.
Like you, I know several minority females who don't watch TLW. Some gave it a chance and they couldn't get into it. Others didn't even bother because, as you said, it seems "foreign".
That said, if this hypothetical show ever made it to TV, I'd love to see it feature not only black women but Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern and Hispanic females as well. And seeing them have lovers of their own race would be refreshing, too, because you didn't see that on TLW with the lesbians of color.
as long as the acting isn't
as long as the acting isn't terrible like on Noah's Arc. That show is addictive but that's got to be the worst acting i've ever seen in life. i think it would happen on logo, except i find logo really boring, actually.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I would love that so much.
I would love that so much. I agree with Grey Day, I'd just like to see Women of Color. What would the show be called? Sisters? And would it be shown on Logo or BET? Those are the only two that would ever have it. I'd pick BET cause Logo is so damn boring. I would love that so much. In fact I would love if the women of color from the L Word were on that show.
Some day...*rests head in hand and looks up at the sky*
nah
i think on BET it would end up pandering too much to mainstream and male fantasy type shit. Let's face it, we aren't all hot, and i'd like to see some average lookin chicks on there, and some fat ones. (and please, not just a fat stud in tall tees. can i get a fat femme kthx.) I would hope it wouldn't be stereotypical like the 'basketball playing stud with dreads who cheats a lot' and the 'neo soul ag femme with a fro' type. now a 'power lesbian with a fro' sounds hot.
I actually HATE BET.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
Oh I hate BET also
except I watch Hell Date, but that's it. A fat femme, oh my GOD would I love to see a fat femme!
^^^^^
Dang, that's harsh....I guess BET went downhill after "Video Soul" & "Bet Uncut" went off the air.....LOL!! Whatever happened to Donnie Simpson...hahaha..... ;-)
And Sherry Carter!
Where is she?
I have to confess, though. "Oh Drama" was a guilty pleasure. *blush*
Not Oh Drama! Lol Not to be a hater but
That show did the most and Kym Whitley got on my damn nerves. Loud ass. I kept thinking my volume was on high everytime she was talking.
I hated Sherry Carter (because in my mind, you see, her and Donnie Simpson were having an affair *twitching eye* cuz see, her azz was always throwing herself on male guests and interrupting Donnie when he would ask questions because she wanted all the spotlight, and when it came to music she didn't know what the hell she was talkin bout *eye twitching* and I remember that drama between her, Stacy Dash, and Christopher Williams)
Anyway, I cannot find a picture of Rachel from caribbean rhythms so that we could reflect on the good ol days of BET
Kym Whitley always cracked me up! :p
And Vanessa Bell Calloway had her moments but Will Smith's first wife? *smh*
Sherry and Donnie?! Sherry and Stacy Dash could pass for sisters, I think.
And let's not forget abput Ananda and "Teen Summit". ;-)
and real shit.
on the black L word.
like a serial cheater (who's NOT a stud/dom/butch)
domestic abuse (cuz it's there)
some sort of VD (because us lesbians tend to think we're immune to the clap or something)
kids
a crazed ex husband who keeps stalking the one chick and tries to get custody of the kids even though she didn't leave her for a chick, she left because she realized she was gay. i'm too lazy to flesh that one out. but it's there. in my head.
and a lesbian with a relaxer because, let's face it, the generalization is that lesbians have natural hair. not all, but a good amount.
and i used to be ON some UnCut and Teen Summit..oh my god.
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
UnCut
black l word
Don't go?
Would that be the pilot in question?
Here's the trailer from the official web site: http://www.dontgotheseries.com/trailer.html
And here is a link to the article on this fine site: http://www.afterellen.com/blog/scribegrrrl/dont-go-screening
It looks nice but you've seen the pilot, how was it?
there is a black lesbian show The Lovers And Friends Show
it's a web based tv show called the lovers and friends show. it's pretty good. the plot lines deal with such subject matters as coming out, infidelity, masculine and feminine roles, domestic abuse, drugs, and violence, sexually transmitted diseases, adoption, and many more issues facing today’s GLBT community. Though most of the main characters areAfrican American or Hispanic Lesbians , the series will include characters of all shapes sizes, races, gender and sexual orientation. The link to the website is www.loversnfriendsshow.com
Thank you so much for
Thank you so much for telling us about this! I'm watching it right now and I'm all jittery and about to go insane. I didn't realize just how much I wanted a Black lesbian show.

you're welcome
i was wondering about a black lesbian show for a while too and i found it online back in january, so i figured i'd spread the word
I like girls,..I like guys,..I'm not confused, I'm bisexual...what's your point?
Let's do it
Instead of just dreaming about it,why don't we make one. I have been thinking about this for some time, but I'm not really that great of a writer. Now that AE has a contest (or something) going looking for new web-based shows about lesbians, why don't we make one? This is the perfect opportunity to make our version (new and improved) of the L word. The lesbian entertainment world is in some serious need of color!
Forget BET the network is truly going down hill. And I don't know if Logo will run it either, but screw it, that is why we have the internet! I live near ATL so having a show based there may not be all that hard. I go to an HBCU so finding black LBT women who would be willing to be in it shouldn't be all that difficult. This is the right time to at least make an attempt. If someone can come up with a decent script, I have a camera (if you have a better one by all means let's use it), and let's just go out and shoot it.
Yall may think I am playing but I am not. I asked Angela Robinson about making films, and directing tv shows, and she said grab a camera, grab your friends, go out and just shoot. That is kind of how she did Girl Trash.
So who is with me??? *cricket cricket* ok no one? Well it was thought. If anyone is willing, go out and do it. It doesn't have to be Emmy worthy (look at Noah's Arc), it just has be to real, and be entertaining.
I'm Down!
I have been dreaming of a Black L Word since the first season. It's a soap opera, I know, but as a fan of soaps I gotta say: there' s more diversity in Genoa City than there is in West Hollywood.
Reign- I'm down for writing. Let's just write up some stuff and go! It would be fun!
I live in D.C. so finding some black queer girls is not a problem.
Logo is a bit boring BUT I think if there were any channel to pick this show up, it would be them. The acting on Noah's ARC wasn't just horrible, it was abominable. However, who can forget the scene were Chance-who caught his boyfriend cheating- ran a truck into the house were said boyfriend was with his hook-up?! My fave part of that scene is when Chance rolls down the window, calm as all get out and says, "We need to talk." period. done. HAHAHAHA
I'm gonna check out that Lovers and Friends link now.
Oh- and I'm a fat, black, bald femme, so.... :0)
Black L Word
This is a great idea. I could provide funding($) for snacks etc...chump change, a trifle....I figure every cent counts. I could also proofread the script, etc etc..
One thing I must say is that this show should have the majority of characters being from the African diaspora, and even Africa. By being too broad, in the name of diversity and inclusion, the show would not please anyone.
aww yeah!!
Awesome!! I kinda suck at writing, but it shouldn't be too hard once we get some sort of character development goin on. All we need is a camera, tripod and Final Cut Pro and I think we can do it. I took film classes as a part of my major. (i directed a pseudo-sex scene for film class. Considering i was working with my girlfriend and a gay dude, it looked kinda realistic LOL) Of course by no means does that mean i'm qualified but it's a start lol.
I might be movin to the A soon so we should definitely do this.
Also, if we get girls to be in it who are in college, they could go to their communications department and borrow some lights and stuff (maybe?) so we could have proper lighting and stuff. Ooooh my creative juices are flowing. I'm gonna go shower.
WARDROBE!
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
wait, wait, do I smell
wait, wait, do I smell CREATIVITY?!?! The poet in me is so geeked. I'm in the DC area too... for now anyway... although I think I'm moving back to Alabama soon.
I'm not really one to write scripts, but I can proofread like a mutha, and am a pretty good critic. Social networking is my thing, I'm down if everyone's serious.
And yeah, I can rustle up some ramen money; because whoever's working that FinalCut Pro will get hungry. :)
Wonderful Ladies
And when the show is up and running I can do the weekly recaps for AE! I'll quit my job and they can pay me while I work from home! Yesss high five
And Pie and I will do a weekly vlog called Brunch with Blacks (like we discussed already) recapping the episode, using neighborhood drug addicts to do scene reenactments. And instead of using sock puppets for characters, we'll use mini brown paper bags! Genius!
Yess! yes! *clasps hands* And I'm being so serious! How much yall need..?
Brunch with Blacks!!!
OMG!!! That is genius!!!! If it happens, I want on there! I am serious like money about that!
Be About IT
This sounds like a GREAT Idea. I would love to be apart of it.
I am taking a film class now and my instructor would gladly help us.
What needs to be done to get this thing started?
Please please please PLEASE don't just talk about it and never don't it.
BE ABOUT IT!!!!!
ok so let's organize
Wow, what a great response! :o)
So where is everyone located and what are they willing to do? The cast and production crew are obviously going to be fairly close. But the creative team (writers, designers, etc). can be anywhere and just communicate through email and such. If you all really want to do this things should get started now. To be honest my schedule doesn't allow me to take on a project this big and have it ready by April 15, so if I am involved we won't make the AE deadline. But don't let that stop you all. If you think you can create, produce, and edit something and have it done in time to enter the contest DO IT!!! It would be great for the non-white lesbians to get a show that can possibly get alot of exposure.
If yall just want to try this project and see what happens then let's go. PM me some character ideas and story lines. I have some ideas already in my head. Let me know where you are and what you can contribute. I can't do too much until the school year is over, but I will try my best. This is going to be very interesting (and fun).
I can get Final Cut Express 4, but I have to wait on final cut pro, because right now the $600 (academic discount) is just not in the budget.
Hey
I need in on this
I'll do casting!

Those who are interested in working on the script please pm me, or if you just have ideas for some characters and situations please pm. This project may take a while and I would like to at least start the brain storming process.
So far it looks like this thing may be shot in the A or DC....still not sure yet. Just depends on what the script calls for.
Black L Word
I've been wondering what a Black version of TLW would be like. I'm in the ATL. Let me know how I can help ya'll out.
aw man
yeah we definitely wouldn't have enough time to do it by tax day (ha i'm hilarious) but we should totall do it! I can't do much from where i'm at right now (I'm in Alabama..it sucks.) But I'm hoping to move soon so i can join in on the awesomeness. Maybe we can start posting character ideas/personalities.
Any ideas for names?
All i got is 'Full Circle'.
But that's if it goes from a focus of all the friends. If it has one main character and then her friends (like Noah's Arc) I'm thinkin of 'In My Life'.
Anyone? Anyone? (Beuller.....Beuller...)
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
Absolutely to A "Black" L Word
I think this would be an absolutely amazing idea! I've watched The L Word since it's inception and have always found it to be lacking in the "People of Color" dept. Don't get me wrong, I love the show. I really do wish there was something for the Women of Color. There was Queer as Folk and The L Word, for the caucasians and Noah's Arc and The Closet (and various other horribly done shows centering around black gay men and their issues with self identity, hypermasculinty and that DL crap...Excuse the rant) for African/Black American men. Yet there is nothing for the Women of Color! I say it's time someone show's the others groups out there how it's really done. I think it would be great to have various Women of Color come together and completely demolish the stereotypes. I live in DC and would love to help out in anyway possible. So long as you lovely ladies allow me to do so.
I am...Me
Black L Word
That would be sweet! While I appreciate the L Word, there are some things that I just can't relate to.

Lovers N Friends Show
I don't know if some one already posted it, but Dee from the vlog "Come with me if you want to live" kinda promoted Lovers N Friends Show, which has Black and Latina lesbians from South Florida. There are currently three episodes which can now be purchased on DVD. The story lines are pretty good, the cast is pretty sexy as well, and these episodes are really addictive. SO CHECK LOVERS N FRIENDS SHOW OUT. Yazmin is just yum!
Bia, Peace
It's complete with bad
The acting isn't that great
The acting isn't that great but I like the show. Yasmin is my favorite character. At least there is a show out there featuring brown skin women who like women and what they deal with. What keeps me tuned into this show is mostly the character Yasmin.
I agree with you rhapsodyNpink08 with Noah's Arc as well. But it still had shown brown skin men who like men. This show allowed the public to see that.
I think the show has a good
I think the show has a good thing going.....I watched episode 1 on youtube and it could be even more marketable if the production was a little better. Some of the shots are just too "tight", like the one where dre and Ky (i believe) are playing ball during a "flashback".
This show's concept is great. Maybe LOGO can pick it up as a "mini series" and see what kind of response they get. With a better budget, the show can be even better.
I like Tori. She seems like a sweet character.
Hold up...
Wait...this was good. What happened?

If you hadn't moved all the way out to California or New Haven or California you could film with us, JILLIAN.
Get that ass back over here. We may need a fluffer.

I was thinking
I was honestly thinking about this the other day. It would be fantastic if it happen. If it did it should be set in Atlanta.
so.
are we still doin it? I'm unemployed so i got all the free time in the world to be goin to Atlanta. And possibly move up there, if I can get hired. (Time Warner, holla at me.)
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
I would prefer all types of
I would prefer all types of races or ethnicities in the show. They should introduce black-, asians-, arabic- and persian lesbians....etc. If they would introduce another lesbian show it should brake all the barriers and taboos.
