-The acting, generally. Few of the actors are given much to work with, but they manage well with what they've got.
-the lesbian storyline. In that - and I hope I don't jinx this by saying it - it looks to me like things are being set up to actually have Caitlin turn out to be gay. Of course, this can easily change if the ratings dictate it should, but so far, that's the vibe I'm getting.
-Bonnie Somerville, generally. I'd never heard of her before this, but she had me at the scene in her car, after leaving the bar in the pilot. I think I made that same face the first time I kissed a girl!
The bad:
-The writing. Boring, generally.
-Miranda Otto's voice. Maybe it's a problem with the accent? She's got the accent itself down, but her drawn-out, haughty way of speaking sounds arrogant and makes me want to smack her.
-the complete lack of chemistry between Caitlin and Alicia. I wanted to buy it. I buy the Caitlin half but not the Alicia half. Maybe it's just that nothing has been done at all to develop Alicia into a character as opposed to just a rather flat love interest.
The ugly:
-Generally, they'd better step up their game if they want to survive Lipstick Jungle when it comes out.
strong female characters. they all are confident and know what they want. good role models. the show is about the life of successful women including work and relationships and not just about sex and/with men.
i also like the diversity of characters e. g. that juliet really seems a bit haughty and arrogant but around her friends she is very nice. i loved the scenes where she is talikng with cilla gray. meow!
zoe's character reminds me of brooke shield's char in lipstick jungle but just more realistic and down to earth than the hysterical version in lipstick jungle.
i remember bonnie somerville from "grosse point".
also love that mia's assistant doesn't look like a model from the magazines.
it's also great to see an asian american starring in a show... ;-)
the bad:
i have to agree that i don't feel the chemistry between caitlin and alicia either. i mean both characters are nice and appealin but it's just missing something.
