News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

I just wondered how many other people where are over 40. I was pming with another who's my age and we think there aren't that many of us. Prove us wrong, please :) .

Over 50

I'm 52. I don't think there are many women here whom are older than 40.

Over 50

Here's one over 50.  Will be 53 the 29th of this month.

Over 45

That's me on the right

Honestly, sometimes I can't believe my age.  What's happened to all those years?  It's like, just a few weeks ago I was in my 20's!  Anyone else feel this way?

Shell12's picture

over forty

there are a few of us still breathing.

well...gotta go. it's bingo time here at the old folks home.

TheWeyrd1's picture

snicker

That's funny...lmao
sallymw's picture

its only a number

Which brings me to bingo, can you hear them calling out the numbers?
Heartsease's picture

;-)

Just wait until they call out...
O - 69!
*chuckling*

Okay...
That's totally "juvenile" humor, but just try to prevent yourself from laughing a bit the next time they call out that number! ;-)

Oh really?

"If you post the forum topic they will come..."

Well then, I must get to posting!

emmon's picture

As young as you feel....

Over 40 and then some in numbers, ageless in spirit, and forever a kid at heart  :)

Yep here i am :)))

explorergal's picture

Present!

OK...dang, am I the oldest?  56 and counting.  Gosh, does that make me a perv, ogling all the nice young thangs?
gali's picture

And another one!

And another one!

45 myself and it is not just a number, I don't know about you guys but I sometimes get really exasperated with the worldview of teenagers! Guess I am just not the maternal type! :)

Also...45 may seem old to some but I don't feel old enough to start playing bingo! ;)

"call me old fashioned but I prefer feminism that leaves a little something to the imagination!"

cylonangel's picture

LOL

I guess I'm not maternal either, gali, because teenagers are as foriegn to me as moon rocks!

I'm bored by bingo, but can still play a mean game of naked twister.  :)

Oh, yes, I am forty-five. I don't think this has slowed me down much at all. I have to wear glasses to read and I can't party all night and do well the next day, but it has not dampened my sex drive or my desire for women who attract me. I think I can safely say that making love is much more satisfying to me now than it was when I was younger. I'm far less worried about how I'm performing for my partner and far more in tune with my body - and its needs and responses. Making love is much more enjoyable now and I adore other women my age, or around there. I think I'm a better lover now, too, because I'm not at all concerned anymore with what I'm doing or she is doing - its all about how I feel and how she feels as well. I'm more in tune with my body and that makes me more in tune with my lover as well.

I don't have any references handy (a lady does not kiss and tell) but I haven't received any complaints lately either, I assure you. :)

There is life after forty, and it can be wonderful.

tetetar's picture

Bingo?

Did somebody say "bingo"??? Wihoooo, where do I sign up????

Honestly though, at my age (42 btw) there's not a lot else to do... except maybe gardening! I mean, all the others my age are already taken and there's really nowhere to meet anyone new (new and my age, that is), and my gaydar doesn't work very well, so bingo it is... wihooooo

MIrrenFan's picture

Not Fair!

I'm not over 40, however I lean toward that age group.  And I feel how 40 used to feel before 40 was the new 25.  So, yes it is just a number and I prefer not to be lumped in with the 20 somethings and and baby dykes.  Even some women my own age turn me off.

I should have been born 10 years earlier.  Ah well.

The Emperor Has No Clothes's picture

I've always been an old soul

I've always been an old soul too and have gravitated towards people about 10 years older than me. I never seemed to be in the same life cycle stage as others my age from the time I was a little kid. I don't know if I'd say 40 is the new 25-- maybe in level of activity but I'd like to think I'm a lot smarter now about life than I was at 25.
MIrrenFan's picture

No, I never have either.

No, I never have either. And I would hope you were smarter now! 25 year olds these days....they scare me. SSSSSSShhhhhh. Well, not all of them. I've met a few who were like me at that age. But they are few and far between. When I was 25, people would guess my age to be around 35. Now they guess about right. I'm not sure what that means. But hey, whoever metioned naked Twister....I'm up for that!
Stoned Soul's picture

Sticking up for 25

Hey, hey, hey... I think some of us 25 year olds have our act together! Hell, I know alot of 40 and 50 year olds who are emotionally immature but then again they were probably bouncing off the walls at 25. I think it depends on the person.

The Emperor Has No Clothes's picture

Stoned, it's not really a

Stoned, it's not really a question of having one's life together, it's about life experience. When I was 25 I sure thought I was wise beyond my years. I had lived a lot of life. None of that gave me 40 or 50 years life experience. The older I get the more I learn just how much there is to learn about myself and about the world.

People who are 10 or 20 years older than me grew up in a different era. They have personal experience with history and society that I can never hope to have, since it happened before I was born. I will never know what I was doing when JFK was shot, because I was in utero. I don't remember when the beatles came to america, but I do remember when they broke up even though I was young. I remember when sesame came on tv because it was the first daily show aimed at kids. I remember when tv was primarily black and white. I remember when title IX was passed and when there weren't girls sports in school.  These incidents alone don't mean much but taken together they shape a person's historical context.

Stoned Soul's picture

I agree with you

I agree with you Emperor that life experiences are invaluable and the only way to gain these experiences is to live through them. I honor that. I was joshing with MF about her remark regarding 25 year olds.

FirstDibs's picture

she's with me

StonedSoul may be young, but I vote we let her in as an honorary. She won't take up much room if she's sitting on my lap.

[Oh God. I am officially a dirty old lady now, aren't I. It's official. Do I get a plaque or something to commemorate this momentous occasion?]

some days it's not even worth chewing through the restraints

Stoned Soul's picture

I accept your invitation

Thanks for voting me in, I'm a big fan of women over 40 so I'll fit right in.

Here is your DOL plaque but hey, your lap is quite comfortable.

FirstDibs's picture

wow!

Dollface, was I right or was I right about this picture for your avatar?? You look fabulous! Keep this one. : )

DITTO!! ;)

DITTO!! ;)

edit: damnit, the "ditto" was supposed to go under MirrenFan's "Not Fair" post.  but, I too shall bow down to the queen ;).  I suck at figuring this posting thing out.

smokinbluegrass's picture

It did.

If you look on the left edge, it is indented in the first position directly under hers. You just get the idea that it's not where it should be because others kept replying to replies.
OutToLunch's picture

almost, but not quite

I don’t think there are many over 40s on the site.  I’m looking at the big 4-0 myself... well, soon enough.

Funny – I was way too mature as a kid, but way too immature as an adult.  If I ever actually settled into my age, I’d probably get hit by a bus the next day.  So I’m sticking with persistent and acute immaturity  :-p

Heartsease's picture

Okay...Okay...

I'll fess up!
;-)

Actually...I like my age.
I used to stress over too many things when I was younger.
Now...
not so much!
(And...I like it that way... )

Hijinx's picture

Ha!

46 and I like it!

I would bet there are more over 40's on AE.

Come on ya all, crawl out of the woodwork!

cylonangel's picture

Jinx...

...I think you are exactly right on your observation and your attitude.

You go girl!

Brunette's picture

Um H..

you didn't say your age ;-)

Heartsease's picture

Ah, Brunette...

You really want me to get started huh?

You've been hanging out in

You've been hanging out in Ye Olde Tyme Tavern, haven't you?  Guess where your keys are?

Yes!

And I'm goin' in after them...

FirstDibs's picture

43

Hey there, I'm pretty sure I'm the one you refer to pm-ing with (at this age we get easily confused of course) but just wanted to make sure I was counted. So what's this, 22 of us altogether who are at least 40? And 2 honorary members, MirrenFan & Zee 2. And I love Z2's comment re: being mature when younger & feeling immature now. Sigh. "youth is wasted on the young..."

I would be SO good at being young, NOW! I finally feel like I got the hang of it...

The Emperor Has No Clothes's picture

That would be you! I

That would be you!

I often think how good I would be at being young, now that I have the perspective of being older.

Shell12's picture

~ahem~

is this the over 40's thread or the flirting thread?? actually really glad to see they aren't exclusive of each other. heh.

i thought i'd post again. for two reasons. 1. to make this thread longer so that at least it seems like there are more of us people over 40. and 2. my son gave me a new nintendo ds, which i love so much that i've already run the battery down, so while it charges, i thought i'd log back on (with glass of wine in hand), see what's up, and wish you ladies a merry christmas!

by the way, i agree with emmons post about "ageless in spirit". i feel great—the best in my lifetime: emotionally, spiritually, and yes, even physically. 46 and loving it.

Tracy85's picture

bshcell-

You let the BATTERIES RUN OUT?  Your lesbianism is going to be called into question my friend!

;-)

chefgirl's picture

ok, ok, me too

i'll keep this thread going...

just turned 40 this past july! don't feel any different from my 20s and 30s other than A LOT wiser and not willing to put up with as much shit as i used to...

really pretty much loving who i am right now! i guess that's what they mean by experience... :)

Brunette's picture

I respect what you ladies said about being 40..

I wish I could feel the same when I reach the big 4 0. ...being in my 30s, I feel old. I hope things change when I get to 40s.

Good nite ladies :-)

The Emperor Has No Clothes's picture

I absolutely love getting

I absolutely love getting older. When I was younger I was an incurable optimist and though mostly depressed, I was convinced better days would come when I was older. I liked getting older because to me older=wiser. I got breast cancer at 37 and one of my first thoughts was, "I hope I live to be 40." Those 0 and 5 years seem like milestones for some reason. I did and now I'm hoping for 50. I always look back and think how "young" and naive  I was several years back. Of course, I wish my eyes could see the way they could when I was a teenager and that my bones didn't ache. I wish I didn't make that awful old sounding noise when I get up from a chair-- the same noise I was sure my grandparents were making to annoy me when I was a kid.  Still, I'd never want to go back and I think my best days are ahead, even though I'm quite content now and not depressed.

Ha! I wish I had a lawn...

I wish I had a lawn, just so I could yell at the kids to "Get Offa My Lawn"!!  Crone power!  And congrats on your longevity in the face of adversity.

As of today

"over" 40... 41.

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday!

I won't go into the whole "41 means you've finished 41 years, and now you're in your 42nd year" thing.
