News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

This show sucks.

Really... It's like watching two best friends who just like to kiss. Boo! I'm disappointed in the audience for supporting this crap.

My opinion is based on the first season, so if it's changed in the slightest, as far as credibility, then forgive me.

*EDIT: Although, it's purpose is, y'know... worthy of attention, at least.

i hate to agree.

but seriously, it is pretty bad. i mean i get where its coming from, and what the intentions are, but its more the idea of spencer and ashley that im in love with, rather than whatever is actually portrayed on the show.

ill just add that i dont think it has anything to do with the actresses. i love them for being so great with the fans. they're amazing. but the writing could really do with some adjustments.

either way, im all for best friends that like to kiss.

ehh comon people

Its on noggin not showtime, its target audience isnt 25 year olds its teenage girls who are finding themselves. I think we should take it easy on the show, at least its something more than degrassi's "palex". Granted it wouldnt hurt the writers to put in a little more action but the fact of the matter is its helping girls and increasing visability. Plus it isn't portraying sterotypes. Spencer's relationship with her mom is something a lot of girls can relate to. Take it easy, thats why we have the L word.

Exactly! It's as if you've been reading my mind!

I would have loved a show like this when I was a teen. Things may not have been so confusing. I think it's great that the N supports a show like South of Nowhere.

well...

its mainly the inconsistancies in the writing that bother me, not the amount of spashley action. seriously, i read the other day that one of the writers that featured on an episode used to write for wrestling, and mostly they have no idea what the audience likes. before season three they thought aiden was the favourite character. what the? they intoduce plot lines and then never resolve them, or 'forget' about them, as the inside dude admitted on yahoo the other day. little things like that.

aside from that, i love the show, i love what it does for people, and i think if it had a bigger budget and listened to the audience from the start it could have been so much better.

We take what we can get

I think so many people love South of Nowhere because there is such a limited selection portraying lesbians on TV. I completely agree the writing is inconsistant and often times way off base. For the writers to have Ashley claim she is lesbian but date a man shows nothing but a group of writers who will do anything for some ratings. However I think the show does an excellent job of showing Spencers struggles with a non supportive and at times homophobic parent. And just like Lushbliss pointed out it is on The N so at times scenes that should or could be very poignant end up being fluffy and cheesy.

But give the show a try, Im not saying to expect alot but its worth it. Especially if you watch the recaps "We're Getting Nowhere" they make the show TOTALLY worth it.
