Separate But Equal???

Sorry if many people have posted on this subject before, but I'm... well... Ok, so I'm just too lazy to go find a forum. Anyway, what is the deal with Obama taking the separate-but-equal stand on gay marriage?! He of ALL people should be advocating equality, don't you think? I mean, separate-but-equal sure as hell wasn't good enough during the African American civil rights movement; what basis lets him take that side during the current bid for equal rights in the USA? All the candidates are waffling on that topic, but it gets to me worse than any with him: I cannot understand how someone whose ancestry cries out from such civil rights abuses as the gay community now faces can stand up and deny those same rights with a straight face. But hey. Maybe we're asking too much.
