k.d. lang

I can't believe there's no thread here about the gorgeous k.d. lang! Come on, you know she means so much more to you than the country-turned-pop-turned-crooner you see on tv. Bring on the k.d. love!

..

There was a k.d. lang thread.. I dunno what happend to it though, 'cause I can't find it.

But yeah. I love k.d. langs music.  Hopefully there'll be a tour date scheduled closer to me in the near future 'cause I'm dying to see her live.

mmmm....

I love her too....I would have thought there might be a couple more people posting on this but oh well. I have a framed signed photo of her on my wall so I thought I'd better add to the love on here! I don't know if I could see her live, I'd probably pass out or spontaneously combust or something.

OH MY GOD!

i freaked when i saw this thread. Not enough can be said about that woman. She is the sexiest thing that ever was. She's definitely the most gorgeous butch i've ever seen, elegant and gentleman-like...and soft as well. She's smart, has a sense of humor, and is a true artist. When that girl sings my panties want to just fall on the floor.*swoon* and she's so underappreciated but that's because she doesn't fit into the mainstream and that's ok,, more to go around. And she's such a great person, hugely talented with one of the best voices ever. i worship this woman. i have her on my computer wallpaper because her birthday was a few days ago...and yes, i did sing to her!LOL! i wish she was coming to town sometime soon. i'd love to see her, but i will definitely will be getting Watershed as soon as it is available.

on the 2nd...

..I said happy birthday to her picture...so glad I'm not the only one!! I agree with everything else too, well said.

all i can say is "constant

all i can say is "constant craving" plays every single day at work and i find myself lip sync along with it.
miss chatelaine's picture

is that all?

Is that all we can say about her?

I've got my sad little collection of kd lang pictures - it adds up to about 250, and I'm always looking out for more.
The thing with kd lang is that she just looks beautiful whether she's in that early cowpunk mode, the crooner sideburns stripeyshirt period or the gorgeous current cropped hair one.
And her voice! She's one of the few singers who actually sing TO you, not AT you. My face actually turns red sometimes when I listen to her.
And I finally managed to find the video for Hush Sweet Lover online - I nearly combusted, it was so freakishly beautiful. Then again, I'm the sort of girl who smiles completely randomly on public transport because I'm thinking of kd lang in that white suit with the slicked back hair and the spectacles, clicking her fingers and singing Ridin' the Rails.

I could go on endlessly, but won't someone else go on?

last I heard she's still with Jamie Price (I think that's her name), they've been together a couple of years at least. There's a few photos of them floating around if you google image search. Jamie always looks like she's glaring down the camera just daring you to try and go near k.d. Can't blame her for that, I guess, I sure as heck wouldn't want to anyone to steal her away from me if I was lucky enough to be in her situation.

I remember the first time I

I remember the first time I ever even heard of kd.  It had to be sometime in 87 or 88 or maybe even 89.  I graduated HS in 89 and lived with my parents until then.  We were in the family room with the tv on like always.  I think it was SNL.  She was wearing that purple suit.  I saw her and I instantly knew.  She began to sing and I was taken. One of my parents said, " Is that a man or a woman?"  I was enraged.  Because I could only think in my mind, "That is me!"  She is like me.  I am like her.  Mind you I was brought up in a "strict" sheltered environment.  I never knew that "gay" people were "real".  I thought it was just a bad word that kids called each other.  This beatiful creature filled my mind for days.  I could think of nothing else.  I must know who this person is.  I must know how she survives, how she exists, where are there more like her?  When I moved out and went to college I grew into the community and learned, "I really am normal."  I cut off all of my conformist hair and styled it like KD's.  As the new young pup, all my friends called me KD.  One or two of them still do even though I have my own style now.  KD had a great deal to do with me and my coming out and how I introduced myself to the world.   She helped me.  She is an awesome talent and a beautiful woman.  The kind of woman you would just like to have a coffee with.  thanks for letting me share.

Wow

What an eloquent post...thanks for sharing that

shallow comment coming up...

I know this is totally shallow but I have to say I do think she has a little too much weight on at the moment which I kinda don't understand seeing as she's pretty much vegan and used to run every day and be quite a fit kind of person...maybe it's an age/hormonal thing. Don't get me wrong, she's still beautiful, her voice is still incredibly sexy/dreamy/creamy/smooth/intoxicating and I definitely wouldn't say no to her, I just think she isn't physically so intensely hot as she used to be even taking into account natural aging changes. I'm not sizeist (is that a word??) I just don't think she suits being that weight, some women totally do and look even hotter that way, she's just not one of them in my opinion...anyone agree? Or disagree, either way...
nz 2 ca's picture

I regret that already!

I've just been closely studying a clip of her singing I Dream Of Spring from about a month ago and I'm now starting to wonder if it's the cut of her clothing rather than her body. The pants seem too loose and low hanging to be flattering, they make her look shorter too.... I'm sorry, k.d. please forgive me, I love you, I still think you're sexy!!! I feel so guilty about my previous comment, I'm obviously not cut out to criticise...oh dear, I'll know better next time.

The song's really good too, yay...I'm going to get over my fear of seeing her live and try to find tickets somewhere.

miss chatelaine's picture

There was a time just after

There was a time just after Hymns of the 49th Parallel came out that she did look a bit uh, bigger. But oh, she's just so painfully beautiful whether as that scrawny "the higher the hair, the closer to god" cowpunk girl or as the longer-haired pony-tailed crooner of the "I'm OK" days that it just doesn't matter. I think that it doesn't really matter what she looks like, somehow she just comes across as ridiculously beautiful - it's not that she's classically pretty, but her gloriousness just makes you realise how perfectly, perfectly beautifully perfect she is.

My favourite phase is the Live By Request one - the way her buttons stop halfway up her shirt, or when she steps out of the fallen lemon chiffon dress and is just wearing the trousers and black tank top? Oh, god. I get wobbly everytime she licks her lips during that show.

Whatever it is, kd lang's still the only woman able to make me turn red just thinking about her. Oh, kd. I think I'm going to watch my Live By Request dvd now.

nz 2 ca's picture

oooh..

I don't have that dvd, how do I not have that??? I don't know but I just this minute bought it online so I will have it in 3-4 business days, yay!

I do honestly agree with everything you said, I think I was just having an off day when I posted the other stuff, I'm blaming on it on the cold medication I was on...

I was at my mum's place a couple of weeks ago and there was some random show on the radio station my mum listens to. It was just on in the background when we came in and I guess it was a segment about Hymns of the 49th Parallel and it was k.d. talking about it but i didn't click til a couple of seconds later when she started singing and I totally went red and hot and my heart started beating all crazy fast. It was as if she was actually there singing. Except that I didn't pass out like I would if she was. I'm so glad someone understands the feeling :-)

miss chatelaine's picture

so how's the show? :)

so how's the show? :)
nz 2 ca's picture

So I've been wondering for

So I've been wondering for a couple of weeks whether your question was in reference to someone having seen one of her recent concerts or whether it was to me in reference to the dvd I'd just bought?

Hmmm either way actually, I'm hopefully going to see her sometime this year, either here in NZ or maybe in Canada if the scheduling works out and theres still tickets available when I can finally book (unlikely on both counts).

miss chatelaine's picture

I'm the technology whiz

Genius that I am, I didn't reply to your post! Yeah I meant your dvd... heh. Isn't it awesome? :D

It's lucky that you even have the tiniest chance to see her - she last came where I am in 2005, and that was during my "I'm SO NOT gay!" period where I tried to be girly. Ugh. I don't think I'll ever get to see her. I get all excited just even thinking about the possibility that I might see her.

nz 2 ca's picture

That's better than clicking

That's better than clicking reply on someone's post when you mean to add your post to the bottom of the page and what you're saying is nothing to do with what they said! Not that I've ever done that of course... :-)

So yeah the dvd is awesome, I have this stupid smile on my face the whole time I watch it. I think at least 2 of the 3 backing singers look at her like they're in love with her half the time or am I totally imagining that? Can't blame them for that though, I'd be more surprised if they didn't. And oh my goodness how hot is she singing Fever??? Even if she is draping herself over a man while singing it! And then singing Barefoot....and Wash Me Clean, seriously I almost stop breathing during that.

She's playing here in May but not in my city so I have to wait to make sure I can travel before I can buy a ticket for the concert. I'm sure you'll get to see her some day, I don't see her quitting touring anytime soon, if ever, even if she does make us wait a long time between albums!

miss chatelaine's picture

The singers do look like

The singers do look like they're in love with her.. I know exactly what you mean! And I LOVED her singing Miss Chatelaine, and the um, way she strips off that yellow dress afterwards, then she sings a little song to it.

I actually decided this morning - JUST this morning! - to fly up to Toronto just to catch her concert. I've got tickets (for the concert) so i have to figure out how to get my flight tickets and accomodation and all that. Oh GOD! I can't believe I'm doing this. I've never been to Canada before, and flying up there is literally halfway around the world for me. Haha.. I'm going to spend thousands of dollars just to see k.d. lang, even if my tickets are right at the back and have an obstructed view. It still hasn't sunk in yet.

All right, enough with the gushing!

nz 2 ca's picture

WOW!!! That is so cool, big

WOW!!! That is so cool, big spender! You should have come to see her here in NZ then I could have had someone to go with who actually loves her too :-) Oh but how exciting, you'll have such a great time, I can't wait to go to Canada, will be there sometime in the next year. Looking forward to hearing all about the concert when you come back... And see I told you I was sure you'd see her in concert one day! :-D

Oh hey on a far smaller note, I just won her Watershed album this morning! I've been just about pulling my hair out since Watershed was released because I haven't had the spare cash recently to buy any cds so about a month ago I entered a competition on a local LGBT website, I figured I might as well slightly increase my chances of owning the cd within the next couple of months. I'd totally forgotten entering until I got an email this morning saying I won it....YAY!!! I would have gone NUTS if I had to go without it for more than a couple more weeks. I swear I know that nobody else who entered that competition would appreciate winning it more than I do!

Late, as usual

I usually don't do very good at replying to posts.

but YES! I still can't believe it I'm actually going to see the goddess in the flesh, even though I'll be sitting in the back row in a theatre, in a country I've never even been vaguely near (Seattle's as far as I've ever gone).

And that's freakishly awesome that you WON the Watershed album! I'm so glad for you. it's a great album - while I kind of prefer her pop (All you can eat is my absolute favourite album), this crooner thingy is pretty darn great. Then again, I hate country but I love kd's country. In fact, I'm listening to Wallflower Waltz right now.

kd lang/anne murray duet

Was it my imagination, or did Anne Murray not say in an interview in the early 1990's that she wished her gay fans weren't her fans?  She had a rocketing career with a huge gay/lesbian following, and then she virtually disappeared here in the US.  I had concert tickets, and the concert was cancelled the day of and never rescheduled.  I only heard rumors about the comment (I think in a CBS interview), but I don't remember seeing it for myself.  I obliged and stopped buying her music, heartbroken because she was my favorite singer at the time.  Now she has a new CD out called "Anne Murray Duets:  Friends & Legends".  The duets are mostly love songs and are all sung with women, including kd lang (A Love Song) and the Indigo Girls.

Does anyone else remember this, or am I just crazy?  I took it as an olive branch and bought the CD.  It is so wonderfully romantic.  My personal faves are Could I Have This Dance (with Amy Grant) and You Needed Me (with Shania Twain). I can't imagine that kd, Amy and Emily would be involved if she hadn't changed her tune....

nz 2 ca's picture

I don't really know the

I don't really know the first thing about Anne Murray but I would have thought if she'd said anything that bad it would be easily found somewhere on the net and I googled and nothing came up so... Not saying you're crazy though :-p

KD This Morning!

Did anyone see KD on This Morning? It was a really good interview, plus she sang with her guitar! I think it's up on You Tube.

kd lang in trouble Down Under

...sort of.

She was running late for a TV appearance in Melbourne (because her plane from Perth was late) and someone on the show arranged for a police officer friend to give her a police escort to the TV studio. And then the proverbial hit the fan and now it seems Kathy Dawn is at the centre of a storm over improper use of police resources. (Read: slow news day beat-up. A victim's rights advocate has been getting airtime over it, for chrissakes...)

And, given that she's performing in my town of Melbourne tonight and I'm not there, I prove once again that I'm a BAD LESBIAN.

It's all over Australian news websites tonight, but here's one link to give you a taste:

 http://www.theage.com.au/news/people/biker-cop-under-fire-for-sweetheart-deal/2008/04/22/1208742886774.html

And it's accompanied by a fugly front page photo of her (which I can't get to cut and paste properly), so you can guess which side this particular newspaper is taking...

kd lang joins pro Tibet protest in Australia

Here's a report of kd taking a stand as the Olympic torch passes through Australia:

Thanks not only but also!

She looks amazing in that picture, but perhaps I might be biased. Those look like new glasses, and is she greying at her temples? GORGEOUS! I'm normally not a fan of these Western folks who take on Buddhism (stop calling it Boo-dizm!) and start going on rallies, but kd makes it seem all right :)

And I know I'm shallow, but I hope she keeps these glasses - the half-rimmed silvery ones weren't half as good. black rimmed rectangular glasses are the lesbian way to go!

not only but also's picture

No worries Miss Chatelaine

The Age (Melbourne paper) published a sort of op-ed piece/statement by her on the morning of the protest/relay and there was a smoking HOT photo of her alongside it. I tried to cut and paste it but the damned thing was formatted strangely so I couldn't. Here's the link to the archived story.

http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/canadian-singer-kd-lang-will-protest-for-tibetans-today-here-shetells-why/2008/04/23/1208743040356.html

I'm not a big kd afficianado so I'm not sure but think it's a file photo - she looks kind of young in it.

Not Only But Also

miss chatelaine's picture

thanks again!

it is a lovely photo, isn't it. The fangirl in me thoroughly appreciates the link.

I'm really not normally a fan of big movie stars/singers coming to the East and telling us how we should do things, it tends to smack a bit too much of western imperialism for me - but kd, you come here anytime and tell me how to run my life. Though I still don't really support the boycotting of the Beijing Olympics. heh.

paging miss chatelaine.....

Have you been on your big trip to the k.d. concert yet? I'm assuming yes since its been sooo long since last time I checked this thread (it wasn't showing up as having any new posts, grrr).

So how was it? I am now totally regretting not going to one of her shows here a couple of months ago, not that they were in my city anyway but still, I don't know what I was thinking, I'm sure I could have found the bucks to get there, it would have been worth it I'm sure.

miss chatelaine's picture

the k.d. lang concert was unbelievable!

Thanks for remembering! It was worth it to spend all that money and to brave the 30-hour flights there and back. She was gorgeous, her voice was gorgeous - I never expected that she'd sound that perfect live, even though I've got her Live By Request DVD and CD. And she mentioned how she picked up the banjo to become a chick magnet! It seemed like 80% of the audience was gay, which was one of the most mind-blowing things I've ever come across.

It's a pity you weren't able to make it for one of her shows, but I'm sure there'll always be future chances! I can't see her stopping her music career and touring any time soon. :)

nz 2 ca's picture

ooh that sounds like it was

ooh that sounds like it was so good, i'm glad you made the decision to go. And I now know to make it more of a priority to go to see her the next opportunity I get!
