Is anyone having a serious Hairspray addiction?

you should tell me because i'm starting to feel alone and weird.

it was so much fun to see; the first time i was blown away, and i raced to borders for the soundtrack then home to memorize the words... so when i saw it the second time i was dancing in the theater with my friends.

john travolta wasn't as good as i expected, but he was still funny, doing hid tina-turner-wannabe move[if you see it you'll know what i mean]. nikki blonsky and zac efron were adorable, michelle pfieffer was scary, and i actually found amanda bynes attractive[odd experience for me].

 the end. :]]

Right there with you

The only musical i've EVER liked was west side story.  I really hate the entire genre!  I hate Rent, I hate Cats, I hate Steven Sondheim's new minimalist opera, I don't even like Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables.

But when it comes to Hairsrpay, I dont remember the last time I enjoyed a movie so much.  Period. From start to finish 0 boring moments and 0 unfunny jokes even though there is not a millisecond that goes by that they aren't flying fast and thick.

My girlfriend and i have been quoting the movie back and forth to each other constantly like its the Big Lebowski or Monty Python's Holy Grail.  I've never been so happy to eat my words, and even though i can barely believe it myself, Hairspray is the best movie of the year.  I wish every day was Hairspray day!

Yay for Hairspray!

Myself and my partner LOVE this movie. We went to see it for the second time today and it seems we sing the songs non-stop. This is one of the best musicals. We're both musical additcs, we love Rent, Les Mis etc etc but this is definitely one of our faves.

I love it so much!

I saw it one night. The next morning I woke up and sang "Good Morning Baltimore" to my best friend. She stayed over after we saw the movie with a few friends and all of my friends though thought I was insane to like it so much. I kept quoting the movie and singing the parts of songs I could remember because I only saw it once. But I knew I liked it when I wanted to get up and dance in the middle of the theater. That's only happened one other time with the movie Chicago (I love that one too! The Cell Block Tango scene).

I'm going to see it again and buy the album like right now.

I saw it 3 times in

I saw it 3 times in theaters. I love my musicals. I got the soundtrack before it came out and listened to it ALL the time before and after I saw the movie. I meant to go watch it abotu 1 or 2 more times before it went out of theaters, but didn't get the chance to. I even got my little brother to love it. My dad gave me a "why the hell did you take him to see that movie for?" look when he found out I took him to see it.
I was dissapointed with John Travolta's peformance too. In fact I hated him in this movie. No one can top Devine . What the hell kind of accent was he trying to do? No one in Baltimore talks like that.

it's madison time!

i never saw the new one, but i have the original with Divine on DVD and everytime i watch it I watch 'It's Madison Time' like, 4 times in a row. Probably my favorite part of the movie. John Travolta just looked wierd, from what i could tell in the commercials.

I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.

Yes!!!

I only saw Hairspray by accident because nothing else was on but I've never been so blown away by a cinematic experience. Welcome to the 60s actually made me cry tears of joy, because I am that much of a geek. I came out of it telling people that this what was films should be like -- it was like they knew everything a film could be used to achieve, and did it. I've played the soundtrack circa 17,000 times in my car. Even my mother knows the words and she's never seen it.

My friends and I found out the last time it was showing in the cinema in our city and went to see it en masse (even though it was like our fifth time) as some kind of bizarre honour guard. Then my flatmate and I bought it the day it came out on dvd and had a Hairspray party. Anytime one of us is feeling down we stick it on and do a harmonised runthrought of Without Love. I am clinically incapable of not dancing like a lunatic to Ladies' Choice. And we spend my lives plaguing djs to play songs from it at cheesy nights out -- we even made a copy for one of them because he didn't have the album, and then he played You Can't Stop the Beat next time we were out. I haven't been this obsessed about anything since I left teenagery. Oh, Hairspray. You bring me so much joy.

Songs stuck in my head!

My sister made me watch this movie and i was kind of against it at first because it didn't seem like something i would like but it turned out to be watchable.
i thought John was so cute as the mother and Michelle was awsome as always.
"I can hear the bells" and "good morning Boltimore" are forever in my head and i've only seen the movie once! x

Hairspray Shake & Shimmy 2 Disc DVD

Can anyone from the UK who owns this edition help me out?

The single disc edition has English/Hard of Hearing subtitles but I want the 2 disc and the packaging doesn't say.  Can someone check it out and let me know. If it doesn't I'll have to buy the single disc edition.

Cheers m'dears.
