Kyle XY episode addresses discrimination against LGBT Community

I don't know if anyone caught today's Kyle XY episode titled "Free to Be You and Me" The title speaks for itself. I mean, the main plot was slow as usual but the situations and dilemmas in this episode were so different!

It starts off with everyone hustling to get their Spring Fling Dance tickets. Lori and Hilary, best friends who have recently had bad experiences with guys they've dated, decide to buy couple tickets. The problem is that the school doesn't allow same-sex couples to buy couple tickets. But the characters aren't deterred; one of the characters Andy (who is probably most open and intelligent) takes it apon herself to set up an alternative dance where orientation doesn't matter.

Adding to all this positive attitude towards different orientations, Lori and Hilary share a kiss! I don't know about you all, but that was so worth watching the slow plot!

Kyle XY

The show is slow on plot but it's suppose to be. This was a good episode in terms of LGBT visibility yet not really. It's just good to see that the network and show allowed an episode like this to air.

Kyle XY = best sci-fi/fantasy show since buffy

I have been a loyal fan of this show since its first episode.  Before this week, literally the only time any acknowledgement of the existence of anything gay came when a guy jokingly said another guy was not his type.  It was always kind of in the back of my head how they would deal with any gay issues that came up. I needn't have worried--the result was miles better than anything i've seen on tv outside of buffy.  In this week's episode, the main characters (none of them even bi-curious) engage in pro-gay activism! (let me remind you this show airs on abc family) Despite a tacky, gratuitous faux-lesbian kiss (followed by an only partially-redeeming zinger), and the complete lack of speaking parts by anyone gay (a highly questionable decision in an episode centered around an anti-homophobia party). But the fact that this was a family activity, exclusively allies, just reaffirms this show's worth, and the importance of including the A at the end of the ever-lengthening string of letters we identify our community by. On top of that, it gives some much-needed visibility to Queerspawn, the children of glbtqia...parents (look it up online if you've never heard of it, but Queerspawn is actually the term they use for themselves).  The fact that it highlighted straight people as important in the struggle for gay rights was really great for me--almost no one is talking about this on tv outside of Kit on the L word (and maybe Judging Amy sometimes).  Anyone who has not caught this show has no idea what they are missing. I HIGHLY recommend you start from the beginning (highly like harry potter highly). Seriously, please for the love of god don't watch this show out of order.  The episode will not make any sense, especially considering some of the sci-fi elements, and you will ruin half the good twists in the series. Sarah's giving the show in general short shrift was very sad.

I couldn't agree more...

with everything you said. I've been watching Kyle XY from the beginning, as well, and not only is it a good show, it's getting more and more complicated.  I'm kinda sorry they didn't make Jess bi...that would have been sweet. But, it might have made things a little too complicated.

I hope we get to talk about Kyle and everyone again.

Enjoy your day...

Peace, Joy and Love
