The thing about Gina Gershon is that she's way too cool and tough for Hollywood, maybe there are not enough good roles for her to play when you look at the movies that are being made. Despite the fact she is gorgeous, sexy and highly intelligent it's hard to find the right casting for her. This is my humble opinion on the subject.

I used to think Gina Gershon was really cool but then she went and had one of her unofficial websites (Gina Gershon Sanctuary) shutdown because there was so much speculation on there that she was a lesbian.

I don't think she cared very much what people thought when she was younger and even played on all the lesbian attention. But then when her career started to grind to a halt, I think she blamed not getting offered good roles on the fact that everyone assumed she was gay. That's my theory and may be completely wrong but it seemed to fit at the time.

Last time I read anything about her, she was quite adament she was straight. Which she MAY be but which I personally do not believe, causing me (and probably thousands of other gay fans) to go right off her. Again not doing her career any good...

I remember a few years ago when she absolutely refused to have her photo appear on the cover of a lesbian magazine. The feature article didn't even relate to "Gina Gershon is a lesbian!", but rather her dykon status and gay roles. She may have even threatened legal action; I don't recall. :?

I don't think she's gay, personally. Then again, that shoudn't surprise most people, since I am not of the faction that thinks 90% of celebrities are in the closet (btw, that's not directed at you [b:7248c10936]h3llb1tch[/b:7248c10936]).

To clarify:

She could tell magazines from here to Mars that she was straight, and I'd be inclined not to believe it (bi is what I've heard, for the record). I think that she does believe she's not getting the job offers/media attention she wants, whether it's because she's getting older or is perceived as "too gay". Personally, I don't believe most people perceive her that way. She is 43 years old, though, and being over 40 and a woman in Hollywood makes it that much harder to get good work, even if you're a marquee name (which Gina is not). She does seem to do well on television; if I were her, I'd try and get a series again.

And for the record, I am not one of those that believes everyone in Hollywood is gay/bi and closted. Many celebrities say they're not, and they're truly not; other say they're not because they fear what would happen otherwise....Liberace denied being gay until he died, you know?

She does what her PR rep tells her to do. That's the way of the biz, so we can't really fault her for not wanting to get pigeon-holed into certain hot roles reserved for us alone. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I actually got an autograph from her, which nearly made me faint. I went to see Cate Blanchett in Hedda Gabler, and we were waiting outside for [i:d6026a76c7]her[/i:d6026a76c7] after the show to try to get an autograph. Well, a truckload of celebrities exited through that stage door before Cate, and Gina was one of them. My girlfriend asked her for an autograph and she said, "I feel funny, I wasn't even in the play." We said, "We don't care!!!", so she signed our program. BTW - she looked gorgeous too.

IIRC Alec Baldwin accidently outed her on Howard Stern, and Stern(who's a friend of Gina's I think) told him that she's not out and that they shouldn't talk about her private life.... so Alec took it all back.

Hmm, I can't figure out which issue to tackle:

1.) Gina Gershon isn't the one who knows whether she's gay or not, and we're all better judges.
2.) "Turning gay" is a wonderful fad to get publicity for an older, outdated celebrity!
