Well, she was in the news recently after using obscene language at a human rights dinner. Her speech followed the first lady. It was mentioned on MSNBC.
Well, just because she's not on TV doesn't mean she's not doing anything I heard she's producing a new broadway show with Cyndi Lauper (very brave considering how her last one went), which I think is based on her book "Find Me". She's also starting a cruise for gay couples who have families/want to start families. I think she also might be producing some stuff for some cable network? I'm not sure.
What do you guys think about her? I'll always have a soft spot for her I guess since I grew up watching her talk show everyday after school, I loved it.
Faithies: You are welcome, I just wish I could insert sound into this board, but I understand why a lot of boards don't allow it. I have a bit of a sarcastic, sometimes dry sense of humor, glad you got it.
Now, about Rosie...she's a hard one. Waaaay back, in her VH1 days, I thought she was very funny. She has talent and can still be very funny but sometimes her F-you attitude does more harm than good. But, then again, she's angry and I (we) can totally understand that too. I love the fact that she stands up for what she believes in, but her attack on Tom Selleck (I watched that ugliness unfold) was completely unwarranted. I was appalled by it.
The problem is that sometimes Rosie can seem as though she is off her rocker. She freely admits to suffering from depression (who doesn't sometimes huh?) and probably some other emotional issues because of the death of her mother and her realtionship with her dad. Couple that with the fact she is a lesbian...the public just LOVES to say, "LOOK! Look at the crazy dyke! Blah blah blah..." It's hard because you want to say "GO ROSIE give 'em hell", but at the same time, you understand that her message gets lost because of how she delivers it. Let's face it, EVERYONE knew she was gay when she had her talk show, if Middle America says they didn't...well they're liars. Yet, her show was still successful because it was good, light hearted, she was very generous, etc. But then it was like something snapped and she got VERY political. We all know America hates it when their stars get too political. That was her downfall IMO. America loves a good "scandal" and Rosie handed it to them on a silver platter.
I think Ellen learned from that and is going to steer clear of it...at least for a while I think Ellen's show is 10X better anyway...
I love the idea that she is starting cruises for gay families. I would however, caution her on her backing yet another Broadway production...$10 Million lost on Taboo. Holy Macaroni!!
Hey Nichole, what did Rosie attack Tom Selleck about? I must have missed that; I must confess I've sort-of tuned out a lot of the press around her in the last year or so, since there's been so much of it (and most of it negative, partly b/c of her delivery, as you suggest).
(LOVED your ::crickets:: comment, btw...I was definitely ROFL when I read it )
Well, it was quite some time ago and it happened when he came on her show to do some PR for an upcoming film (was it the one with Ellen in it? The Love Letter) Anyway, it was also right after the Columbine tragedy. Disclaimer: I am in no way making any political statement on the following, just an observation and my humble opinion. OK, read on....
Tom is well known (or at least he was to me) as a NRA member. (National Rifle Association.) And apparently Rosie was aware also, I think because at the time we make a commercial or something? Anyway, I watched her show because of the above mentioned posts ie, humor, light-hearted nature, etc. I never watched her show for political enlightenment. I was expecting to see Tom talk about his "Friends" stint and his upcoming movie with Ellen but instead the conversation turned decidedly ugly, confrontational, and painfully uncomfortable. You could tell he was trying not to get too angry as she was getting more worked up. Ugh. Horrible for the both of them.
To sum it up, I got the feeling that they were supposed to be talking more about the film and not gun issues. If I wanted to watch a debate, I'd watch Larry King, Donohue, or nay other news show. I was disappointed in the way the whole thing went down.
Found a clip, if you care to watch it. Just scroll down the page to #4 (you need Real Player which SUX!) I make no statements at all on this (political that is).
Violet: I'm not apologizing for what I did. I'm apologizing for what I didn't do.
Congratulations Nicole..you've got the thread started. It's amazing the impact a cricket can make.
I agree with your view on Rosie and her manner. But I so loved her show and missed it when she left. I remember rushing home from work and anxious for the show to come on. She made me laugh at a very low point in my life. I could count on the shows for a smile...everyone of them. I love Ellen as well but as yet, she hasn't continously made me laugh as much. But I do watch everyday.
Wow

Shall we design one?
It was MY turn to laugh! Good one Fatihies.
Now I get it. Sorry for not being computer savy. You're right about the no discussion on her. Why is that?
I guess no matter the splash you make in the past if you "ain't" current you "ain't"

Alexb,
You're not stupid!

I tried inserting a cricket sound wav but I guess this board doesn't allow that.
::crickets:: = the sound of crickets
Rosie has had her own topic for a while now and there was absolutely no interest in it, I found it funny, and I was being a smart-azz by typing that.
I love Rosie. I used to watch her talk show everyday and was bummed when she went off the air. Lmao! They do deseve medals.

Ok, Call me stupid. I'm completely lost. What does any of this have to do with Rosie?
I do as well. But she does appear to have a great family, girlfriend and still lots of money. I know money isn't everything!!
(Things are better, thanks Nichole)
