Favorite Religiously Themed MoviesIt can be about any religion. Post the title and why you like it =]. Joshua - This movie does a lot to humanize Jesus. It completely forgets all the condemnation and what's left is purely someone whose man and God, who loves and is there for his people. Teaching that the broken can be made whole and that we're stronger together. Wide Awake - One of M Night Shyamalan's first movies and quite entertaining. The premise is that the kid's grandfather dies so he tries the two things he loved most, football and religion. What transpires is a very organic story in which a kid learns that he's not alone.

What the bleep do we know
Mine is "What the Bleep do we Know".
Why I like this movie because I understood the concept of God to some extent.
It has no gender ,nor God is sitting on same sofa with Jesus or Mohammad, watching us and ready to send us to Hell once we commit crime.God is inside us,closer to our heart. Its only our eyes that cannot see.Like child eyes cannot recognize faces till first 3 months, they can only see shades ,its same with us that we cannot see that power even though its too close to us.
Again what we think is reality(this life) is all 3D movie like our dreams.Like in our dreams even if we realize its dream we cannot get out of it,life is like a dream and we can get out of it via death.
This movie combine quantum physics, philosophy, religion and try to explain idea of God and love and negate the idea of doing good and bad to for the sake of Hell and Heaven.Life is all about LOVE .Understanding ones REAL self is understanding GOD.A must see movie.
Preview of the movie is below:-

You know, I enjoyed The Passion quite a bit. I didn't expect to at all -- There were some parts which I found very difficult to watch, but overall I enjoyed the movie. Oh, and I loved it that it was filmed in Aramaic.
I also recently watched Ester and found that to be pretty good as well.
X-The Malcolm X biopic
I loved this movie. Denzel hit all the right notes as Malcolm X, from his troubled youth to his ascendence to the highest ranks of the civil rights movement. It was great to watch all the ups and downs of his spiritual journey, especially his pilgrimage to Mecca.

films of faith
Dogma and Saved! so speak to my inner cynic about organized religion, but my favorite is actually What Dreams May Come. Powder also has very religious overtones and makes me cry.
From a strict traditional standpoint: The Ten Commandments because it just doesn't feel like Spring until I've seen it, but mostly to see Edward G. Robinson (in the worst movie casting ever) sneer: Where's your Moses now?! Also, Yvonne DeCarlo, Debra Paget and Anne Baxter are three of the most beautiful women ever to grace the screen.
Watch What The Bleep Do We Know
I just watched What The Bleep Do We Know and it's really an experience.
One of the things it makes me think about is if reality is as we perceive it than isn't life just a combination of all our perceptions? With that thought in mind could we, if truly accepting the possibility, create or change things if we universally meet on them? For example, my friend smells bad every time I've ever been around him. If every person wholy decided he smelt good could that change the reality of his stench? Would it matter if animals perceived differently or do they not factor into the collective human consciousness?
I could go on for ever about questions and theories the movie created for me. I recommend that anyone see it because it truly presents the world in a new light =x.
Harpy. The only thing I really can't stand about The Passion, honestly the crucifixion in general, is how tells us God reclaimed us in a ridiculous manner. If God is an intelligent, omnipresent, omnipotent being than I can't see how he'd have to bargain with himself to be able to accept us. Sorry if I come off as judgmental or anything, just my opinion =).
I have to see Ester and Malcolm X now!
Turn off the lights and turn off the shyness
'Cause all of our moves make up for the silence
I think two.
And SAVED! Hmm, I think I'll buy it on DVD tomorrow...
I should mention Powwow Highway. Funny AND spiritual.

Saved and Dogma are both quality films. I first saw Dogma when I was still Catholic and thought it was spot-on.
I thought that The Passion of the Christ was overrated and just self-indulgent on Mel Gibson's part. I never really got why Christians make so much of the crucifixion. Yes, Jesus suffered but innocent people suffer all the time and I reckon anyone could take a fair amount of pain if they believed that it would mean salvation for the world.
The Life of Brian
Does that count? Yeah 'course it does.
Those Pesky Pythoners...
....anyone dying for the salvation of the world is a terribly selfless thing to do, though after the pain it seems he just went back to Daddy....
...Who less gave his only son, rather it seems he loaned him to the world for about 30 years. Not all the sacrifice it's cracked up to be.
And where is all this salvation he died for anyhoo?
still crazy after all these years
The Last Temptation of Christ
For pure satirical humor..
...Life of Brian takes the cake. I laughed out loud through much of it. Especially the bit with the gourd-worshipers and sandal-worshipers representing the ridiculous scisms seperating those in the Church of Christ.
Agnes of God was thought provoking and I loved the imagery and beauty in many of the shots.
All time favorite is The Greatest Story Ever Told.
Oops.
Places in the Heart, Prince of Egypt.
Facing the Giants is a
Facing the Giants is a really good film. I expected it to suck. I'm glad I watched it though. This church made it all by themselves. So it was like REALLY good for first time film makers defintly. It's football scenes were better than alot of box office football movies I've seen. It's pretty inspiring as well.
End of the Spear is really good. Sad though. But I reccomend watching it. The documentary about the missionarys "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" is ok. But not as good as/interesting as the film.
Saved was soooo relatable for me. I know it seems that it's supposed to be over exagerated but, my gosh! Some of that stuff REALLY happens at christian schools. The part where the girls were "bragging" about their "religous achievments" or how Jesus told them something made my jaw drop. I was like "I've heard that before yo!"
There was this movie that wasn't really religiously based but it was big in christian book stores and youth groups and such called "Extreme Days". It had mostly christian artists on the soundtrack. I liked it when it came out because I was all into skateboarding and bmx and stuff.
When I was REALLY little I LOOOOOOVED this movie called "The Buttercream Gang" I actually saw a vhs of it at the library the other week and got it. It's the cheesiest movie EVER but I loved feeling like a kid again. If you can find it, rent it. It's a good laugh now that I'm older.
Chronicles of Narnia was an ok film. The special effects were awful. and it wasn't nearly as violent as it should have been. I'm just biased based on the books.
Even though I haven't seen it in YEARS, I always remember when ABC showed the Ten Commandments, it was like the effin Superbowl in my house or something. My family and I loved it. I mean, even if you hate bible related movies, you cant deny Charlton Heston! All other "Jesus" or Bible topic movies I'm honestly kind of put off by (aka bored). I one time tuned into a movie about Jesus' life and he was flirting with a girl. Didn't know Jesus put the moves on the ladies. Until they put out a movie about the life of David, I probally won't be watching any other then The Ten Commandments.
The Gospel, the movie had it's ups and downs but man the music got me bobbing my head.
I'll try to remember more. I used to watch TONS when I was a kid.
The Mission and The
Dogma
Stigmata
I almost forgot Stigmata.
