I'm really into cross-stitch at the moment, have been on and off my entire life, thanks to my beloved mother. And Card-Making. Paper-pricking, etc, etc. Mostly cross-stitch, though. Any stories you'd like to share? And any other crafts your into?

Sounds Fantastic
Woolf, I hope it's what you wish it to be. I'm thinking of going to do some courses down at the WMA (Like YMCA or something I don't know) in writing. I mean, I've been writing for years, but still, it's a course. Also, they have a pottery course and I'd love to do that again. I had everything a long time ago, the wheel, the kiln, the clay, the incentive. Just kinda got lost along the way, though! But one of these days it's going to be Demi Moore, eat your heart out!
Clay in Demi's Hands
Oh my!
When I read your post...I remembered the sensual pottery scene in Ghost.
Watching Demi's hands work that clay...
Wow!
Who could ever have imagined that the art of pottery making could be so...sexy?
:-)
I used to study something
I used to study something more scientific. But it was boring and I could never concentrate (I drew all the time :) ).
Pottery sounds cool. I'd really like to try this.
Art School
Woolf20...
I wish you the best in Art School.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
I have a collection of paintings and drawings from various online art galleries that I refer to as a collection of "pretties" (almost entirely women ;-) ).
Ooo!
I'd say one of my favourite artists is a woman called Victoria Frances. I believe she's a painter, although I'm not entirely sure. The themes, however, are pretty much all fantasy/vampiric. I've got two of her works - one of two women kissing, the other of a female vampire in a white dress with a red cross dangling from her neck. I adore Frances' work and plan on building the collection as soon as I get some more wall space!
And pottery, so much fun! Just remember, DO NOT take your hands away from the piece you are working on if your foot is still on the pedal....
*spies a piece of dried clay on the wall and scutters off...*
Victoria Frances
I like Victoria Frances' work too and have several pieces in my "pretties" collection.
:-)
My girlfriend and I also enjoy visiting beautiful historical cemeteries. In fact...the photo that I use for this site is from one of our cemetery "photo sessions."
I don't know if it's legal for me to post one of her drawings, so here's a link to her site: Victoria Frances
I Just Wish
Ordering Victoria Frances Prints
You can order some of her prints from Art.com or AllPosters.com.
Here's a link to her works on Art.com: Victoria Frances
With the Allposters site...you will have to do a search with her name.
By the way...If you want to see some lovely photos...check out the erotic photography on these sites. (You can even narrow your search to just "women." ;-) )
So much good art, so few hours in the day
Steve Hanks work reminds me of Hofmann's, though I think the Hofmann pieces are much richer and more textured. They're very similar in style and subject matter though.
Valueva seems to have drawn a lot of inspiration from Alphonse Mucha, who is my personal favorite. I'm pleased to see his influence still so widely scattered in many current artists.
I like a lot of the pieces Stephanie Pui-Mun Law does. She has a glorious sense of imagination and color.
There is a young Polish artist on DeviantArt whose work is amazing, particularly if you like Goth and Fantasy: BlacKeri
Art!
Yes...Steve Hanks has some wonderful women's portraits as well. :-)
(I wish that both he and Hofmann would occasionally paint some women with smaller breasts, but that's okay. I love their work!)
I agree with the comparison between Valueva and Mucha. I just love how Valueva makes all of her women seem so beautiful! (It would be a fantasy to be in one of her paintings! :-) )
I am also familiar with Stephanie Pui-Mun Law :-)
I checked out the BlacKeri site. Thank you!
I've seen some of her work before, but this is a treasure trove of her art!
:-)
Well...I have more art that I could share, but I think I'll hold off for now. I don't want to share too much...too soon. ;-)
deivant art
Thanking You
Very muchly, Heartease, great link. I'll be ordering from there, rather soon!
And please, share as much as you wish!
I also enjoy Luis Royo. There is a user on AE who has his 'Tattoed Lady's Back' as her avatar and I love it every I see it.
Royo
Yes...I've noticed the Royo avatar too.
(One can't help noticing her lovely derriere.)
:-)
I'll share more art later. Right now...I think the erotic photography sites and the art links will keep everyone busy for quite some time. Besides...I have to get going (for now) ;-)
:)
i'm studying Architecture and design at art school at the moment and i'm also a freelance artist mostly working with pencil and charcoal.
I adore Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, simply put it's incredible :-)
I LOVE LUIS ROYO
Art...
First...
Nejra, I hope that you do continue with your art!
Yes...Royo's work is incredible!
Here's an artist that may be of interest to some of you:
Enayla / Linda Bergkvist
Enayla and Linda Bergkvist are the same person. I recommend visiting the "Enayla" (DeviantArt) site first, so that you can quickly view some of her work. If you like what you see...you should visit her actual site: furiae.com She has some gorgeous art!
Enjoy!
Architecture...
Oh...and Alexz...
I didn't forget that I promised you some Architecture links:
Art on the Web: Architecture Links
Have you ever seen Gaudi's work?
It's very unique!

You're Welcome
I'm glad that you are enjoying the links.
I have more...much more!
Enjoy!
:-)
By the way...I've seen your photo and that is a great drawing of you! (Are you the artist? Is it a self-portrait?)
drawing
yeah I drew that. It's portrait of Sarah Bettens (my favourite singer)
here is some more of my stuff. engravings, photos, paintings and drawings (a lot of this stuff shows Sarah Bettens :) )

Talented :-)
Woolf20...
You have talent! I am very impressed with your artwork and your engraving work is magnificent! :-)
Sorry about the mixup on the portrait. (I can never tell if a member photo is someone's actual photo or a photo of someone else.)
Hmmm...may have to check out Sarah Bettens, since I'm not familiar with her music.
I plan to take a closer look at your gallery, but...wanted you to know my first impression.
Wow!
thank you
thank you :)
and yeah check out Sarah she is awesome :) :)
Woolf...
Do you take requests?! I've been looking for someone to draw a decent sketch of Kate Mulgrew, but I can't find anyone with talent. As you've got oodles of talent... Anyway, if not, that's OK!
I tried sketching a while ago, and if I stuck with it, I'd be pretty alright by now, but I let it go. I moved onto cross-stitch instead. I've been working on a naked portrait for about seven years now!
7 years. wow that's a long
7 years. wow that's a long time :)
Of course I can make a sketch of Kate :) I made this drawing of Patrick Stewart for my brother last year.
BEAUTIFUL
Hot Damn!
Woolf, that's fantastic. Go you with the talent! Stuff Victoria, it's all about the Woolf.
And yea, seven years. I know. I mean, I have bouts where I get into it, but then I get bored really easily, which is why other than work and writing I don't really pursue much else because of my attention span.
Look at the pretty lights!
And fatastic - I'll PM you, if that's OK? More to follow....
yeah that's ok :)
Excellent!
What a delightful connection!
Woolf...
I hope that other AE members will stumble upon this forum topic and discover your artistic talent.
:-)
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing gallery!
thanks !!!
More Art Links...
Going to choir rehearsal this evening, so...I'm going to give you links to two fabulous art galleries!
Visions
(There should be something there for just about anyone. ;-) )
Duirwaigh
Don't forget to check out the slideshows in the "Inspiration" section.
My "pretties" collection contains a number of the drawings/paintings of women from these galleries. Enjoy!
Hmmm...
It would be delightful to return later and see that there is a discussion of some of your favorite artists. I thought about listing some of my own faves, but...I don't want to "talk" too much right now and I like the idea of everyone exploring on their own.
Also...
If anyone is new to this forum topic, I highly recommend that you check out Woolf20's gallery. :-)
ArtRage 2
Just wanted to recommend for anyone who enjoys messing around with paint n stuff and would love to be able to do it without getting dirty, ArtRage 2. It´s an art material simulator, pretty cool program, you can draw, paint, etc. Paint even blends together and has thickness and what not, and you can also choose different canvas textures. The full version costs like 20 bucks, the trial though is free(duh) and if you just want to play with it , it should do u just fine.
My two cents, I dont really have "a favorite" artist. Maybe if I had to decide my alltime fav I would have to say Goya. But I can recommend three of my obsessions to anyone who doesn´t know their work, so u can look em up: Raymond Pettibon, Sophie Calle and Marina Abramovic.
They are my idols, as random as it may seem to stick them together, but they definitly are the most influential over my work, as well as my way of working (ah! the process).
Have fun with ArtRage!
http://comadotcom.blogspot.com
The Art Links...
I thought there would be something for everyone on those sites...
What did you think of Octavio Ocampo's work?
Even More Art
Ah...Goya!
One of the Masters!
I've also checked out Pettibon, Calle and Abramovic...
and it seems that your style is influenced by the darker comic/conceptual/performance artists. I will have to dig around a bit more.
As for the ArtRage site/download...
Thanks! :-)
I'm definitely going to have to play around with that program. ;-)
(I'm terrible at it right now, but I love a good challenge!)
Note to those interested in downloading ArtRage...
They have a free download and a "full edition" that costs $19.95.
Thanks again,espejitoespejito!
What fun!
Art school perversion.
I think it's unavoidable in our time for an art school graduate not to be perverted with conceptual tastes, addictions and mumbo jumbo. He,he...it's a terrible thing I used to actually have a great love of beauty as a visual concept within itself when I was younger, where the hell did it go?
As for the artists I mentioned, Pettibon is just visually enticing, Calle is about as french as it gets which makes her so exquisite, but Abramovic, wow...she is the godmother of performance art and her work is just so powerful, she has the balls that newer younger performance artist don't have. She really puts it all out there, her body, herself, her conditions, as a woman, as a Serbian. If you weren't completely put off by it, check out her earlier work with her expartner Ulay. They used to work together as a couple, all about the give and take of relationships and love. When they felt the relationship was coming to an end, they did one las piece together, each of them starting out on either side of the great wall of China, and walking towards eachother. It took them a couple months to meet up and when they did, they realized that it had ended, that they were ready to give eachother up. UFFFF.
I checked out the artist you suggested, his work is ver Dali-ish, combined with some neo-mexicanism. Next time I'm in Mexico, I'll see if I can pop by his gallery or studio in Tepoztlan and check out his sculptures, since I didn't see any images of those. There is an art center/gallery/lab around the corner from where I live here in Madrid showing some Chicano paintings you might like, I think they've got plenty of images up on their website :

I'm not sure if the site is translated into english, if you need anyhelp surfing it let me know. Ok, time to go, now I've talked a bit too much.
http://comadotcom.blogspot.com
I Cannot Help But Mention
Some of the classics, now. It seems, although I could be wrong, that we're all talking about somewhat more modern artists, and that could be a generational thing.
However I've also adored Monet, Picasso, Da Vinci, for many years now. Unlike all you others, I'm not really that good with the whole add a link, but I'm sure you're all good at Googling things!
What I like about Picasso is that, all things aside, Picasso to me seemed to just do as he pleased in a time when his visions weren't considered anything more than a bunch of sketches, mis-placed colours, etc. Picasso simply did as he pleased and that's something I admire about anyone.
Monet - well, he just painted pretty pictures that make nice greeting cards, and he did so beautifully.
Da Vinci - Not the 'father' of anything to me, nor do I think he's all that fantastic, you know, 'Oh, he created this and that and invented such and such'. To me, that's not important. Anyone with enough motivation can invent something, create something memorable, etc. No, what I like about Da Vinci is that he has this aura about him that just about everyone is drawn to. There aren't many people who don't like Da Vinci. I like him for that reason. Even in death, and years after his work, he's still considered to be a genius in this day and age. I like the mystique about it, I guess!
Da Vinci in the kitchen.
For anyone who is into Da Vinci, and also happens to be interested in culinary arts , I recommend the book "Da Vinci's Kitchen". It s a really intersting book that recollects Da Vinci's culinary adventures, his recipes, notes and experiments, as well as giving great historical insight on Italian renaissance gastronomy.
Concerning the dead but great art masters, I'd definitly say (in no particular order chronological or otherwise) Goya(again, lol) the first modern painter, Velazquez, Greco, Caravaggio, Rubens, Rembrandt, Durero, Van Eyck, David, Fredereich, Schiele, Delacroix, Manet.....The list goes on and on.
For any art history/aesthetics buffs out there I recommend, I've actually just finished reading it myself, Italian novelist and semiotician Umberto Eco's History of Beauty(not sure if that is the actual english translation, I have it in spanish "Historia de la Belleza", and the original title is "Storia della bellezza"). It's not so much a review of art history but of the perception of beauty covering from the greeks to our day and age.

Much to consider...
espejitoespejito,
Thank you for your excellent posts (so much to consider/explore).
This is just a quick response, because...I've had the AE site up while at work today, but I can't actually "play" too much right now. ;-) In fact...I'll probably be signing off soon, because I keep checking out the site instead of doing what I'm supposed to do.
I will respond...eventually.
thanks Heartsease
Now Whose Flirting?
With who? LMAO
What is it with a group of women together flirting? You know I could paint a portrait. Wait I can't paint. OK - well I could pay someone to paint it, put my name on it and go to Rome. Ah, Rome!
Anyone like Tanya Chalkin? Photographer - did The Kiss - two women locked in embrace. Unfortunatly, other than one other picture with the same women, I think, she's not done anything else 'lesbian', which is a pity because I'm a huge fan of black and white photos!
Guilty (as charged) :-)
What can I say?
Yes..."The Kiss" is a beautiful photograph!
Tanya Chalkin
What do you think of this one by Filip Naudts?
OMG
To Be Honest...
Can't say that I like it, Heart. I mean, it's basically the same, except it could almost be like the woman is kissing a reflection of herself, which would be taking us into Narcisssim and that's an entirely different art-style. And Filip? A guy, I'm assuming? Not to be all... feminist about it, but if it's a guy whose taken the picture, unless he's gay, then to him it would just be a fantasy and no real art, know what I mean?
But, if I am wrong, then for what it is, it's lovely. It must appeal to me on some level as I saved the picture!
I love Rodin. The Gates of Hell has always been one of my favourite pieces of work. And The Thinker. And I think Rodin did The Scream, as well, which has also been a personal favourite!
I love Rodin as well, Mercy,
I love Rodin as well, Mercy, and I was very distressed when the version of The Thinker, that I had seen at the Cleveland Museum, was bombed by protesters in 1970 (on my birthday!)
Edvard Munch created The Scream, which has become one of the most famous images in the world!
It's okay if you don't like the Naudts photograph. That's the wonderful thing about art. What appeals to one person...may not appeal to someone else. (I just thought it was similar to The Kiss, but with a twist. ) I discovered Filip Naudts when I was searching through some erotic fine art photography sites. I'm not into porn (it's just too raw), but the best erotic photography is quite sexy. Since Filip (who is indeed male) creates a wide variety of fascinating portraits...I don't think of this piece in terms of a "male fantasy."
Hmmm...
Yes...I suppose one could see narcissism in this photograph, but I also like the notion of twin souls...and the intimacy of this portrait...
I Knew I Was Wrong!
I made that my heading because how often am I wrong? LMAO.
Thanks for that, Heart. Saying it was Rodin felt wrong, but my brain couldn't compute and I couldn't think of Munch! Strange, Munch is one of my favourite characters on SVU, you'd have thought I'd have remembered!
There's an artist who painted a portrait of Kerryn Phelps and Jackie Stricker (Kerryn Phelps was the AMA in Austrlia (Australian Medical A... something... anyway, she was the president) and is a lesbian. The portrait was painted of her and her partner, it's fantastic. I've got to find it and post it because although some people have said that Jackie looked like she'd been struck with an iron and Kerryn looked as if she'd rather be elsewhere, it's a beautiful image!
I did some looking into Naudts and whereas I still can't say he's someone I admire, I do admit that there's something about erotic photography. Whether's it's people shocked reaction when they see it, or the fact that even after they've seen it, they keep looking, I'm not sure! I've always wanted to get into erotic photography, but I can't find a model! Any volunteers?!
Oh...
You are a flirt, Dear Mercy!
;-)
Who Knew
That I could be a flirt! What an out-rageous statement, Heart! I confess, it's true. Yet only to a limited degree. Strange, I can offer advice about flirting, but can't seem to do it very well myself. Always feel like a damned fool!
I wonder if there's any art that would be easier to give to someone other than flirting with them? A nice picture by Victoria Frances that just screams 'I dig you!' LMAO
art
Here are three paintings I made lately. The first one is an acryl painting of Kelly Zirbes, the second is an oil painting of Mandana Jones and the third is a watercolor painting of Simone Lahbib and Mandana Jones (Yeah I really like `Bad Girls´ :)
Amazing!
Woolf...
You know how much I love your work and these new paintings are incredible!
Oh...and the "Bad Girls Kiss" makes a fabulous avatar (and captures my attention each time I see it ).
Awesome
Totally fantastic work there, Woolf! I utterly adore Bad Girls... OK - Just Helen & Nikki to be honest! If you're into fan-fiction, do a search for G L Darrt, you'll come across her page - Novel Expectations, and she's done some FANTASTIC Voyager and Bad Girls fan-fic.
When she calls my name, I turn and in instant I lose my heart. This is the love of my life.
