It’s a slow day for music today but I decided to include a bunch of fun extras for you all because I’m feeling really generous after seeing Magic Mike last night. I’m pretty sure there must be subliminal messages in the trailer for that movie because there is no other reason lesbians all seem to be swarming to see it. Seriously, my friends and I weren’t the only gal pals in the audience — there were rows and rows of us. If anyone has any information as to what external force may have swayed me to put down money on this, please let me know so I can ask my accountant if I can write it off next tax season. Thanks.

This is a fun summer album filled with light indie-pop rock and the slightest bit of ’60s beach rock — almost like a combo of Company of Thieves‘ least-heavy vocal arrangements and Best Coast at their least-dreamy. This by no means is to say the album isn’t enjoyable; it’s actually an easy and pleasurable one to listen to and makes me nostalgic for the summers coming home between college semesters, meeting up with old friends from high school and navigating the weird in-between stages of friendships through time. Stream the album in its entirety over at Spinner.

The only problem I can find with this five-song EP is that there just isn’t enough. Singer Louisa Rose Allen has got something special and I’d even go as far as comparing her to a less vocally-dramatic Florence Welch with more synth-pop infusion. I can pretty much guarantee many happy ears listening to her music in the very near future. Check out and download my favorite song from the EP White Coats below.
Music Extras: Grab a free download of the Chrome Canyon remix of Shadowbox’s song “A.M.” and while you’re at it, grab a free download from one of my favorite artists from last week, Jesca Hoop, “Hospital.”
Check out this NSFW video from The Pin Up Girls. Giggidy giggidy goo! Also, high fives to you all because how friggin’ cute are all of you?
Check out the single from sister trio TEEN whose debut album, In Limbo, comes out August 28 on Carpark Records.
How about a little love for a collaboration between tUnE-yArDs, Angelique Kidjo, ?uestlove and Akua Naru performing “Lady”?
What’s this? A new song from Tilly & the Wall? Yes! It has been too long since I’ve heard from them. They don’t write; they don’t call — hopefully that just means they’re making more new music.
Speaking of hopefully making more new tunes, here is a new track from Swedish electro act, Little Dragon.
That’s all for this week’s new music. For those of you celebrating Independance Day, have a safe holiday! In the meantime and between time, feel free to find me on Twitter, Facebook or at the nearest bar.
