New Music Tuesday: 8-5-08
At the record store this week, The Faint and Connor Oberst‘s new album will be big topics of conversation, but there are also several ladies deserving of some discussion.
Brazilian Girls — New York City (Verve Forecast)
Led by the wildly eccentric Sabina Sciubba, the band has recorded an electro tribute album to their city. It’s like a throwback to the time when Club Kids ruled the streets but with a modern take on all-nighters (read: less drugs, more dancing).
Amy Ray &mdash Didn’t It Feel Kinder (Daemon Records)
Carrie Rodriguez — She Ain’t Me (Back Porch/EMI)
The album was produced by Malcom Burn (who also worked on Kaki King‘s Dreaming of Revenge) and is ideal for fans of pop alt-country or those willing to give it a try. (Though Carrie is now in Brooklyn, she hails from Austin, Texas so she does have some country cred.)
Various Artists — Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 Soundtrack (Sony)
Songs include “Together” by Michelle Branch, “Warm Whispers” by Missy Higgins, and “Sister Rosetta (Capture)” from Noisettes (pictured above). Those are all much more worthy of your time than the most predictable track included: “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” from (who else?) Cyndi Lauper.
Will you be giving any of these a spin?
