What’s cookin’, good lookin’? Have I got some great new releases for you! One of which (my top pick this week) will be playing Lollapalooza this weekend and I’ll be asking her some questions, so let me know if there is anything you’d like me to add to the mix! On with the show.

Ximena’s first English language album is packed to the brim with greatness. For a record based on the insecurities that come with making huge life changes, this butterfly has come out of the cocoon swinging. Of course, she also had the opportunity to work with some of my favorite producer/musicians: Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Maximum Balloon), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Devo, The Bird and the Bee) and Natalia Lafourcade. You can definitely hear their influence, especially if you are a fan of her fantastic Spanish-language debut, Mediocre (which, you should also check out even if you don’t understand what she’s saying) but it doesn’t overshadow who she is as an artist. If you’re lucky enough, you may still be able to catch her on tour with Sia and Oh Land.

Saidah is a newcomer to my collection but I’ve got a feeling she’ll be getting a lot of air time in the next few months to come. She is raw, electric energy and her songs are packed with rock and roll attitude with some neo-soul and funk bursting through its melodies.

So, the best way I can think to describe The Ettes to anyone who hasn’t heard them would be to say if Zooey Deschanel had a badass twin sister who wore leather jackets, swore and definitely dated someone more tatted up than Ben Gibbard. It’s that nostalgic surf-rock sound best for when the sun is setting and the beach bonfires and Trans-Am races are about to get started. You can rev your engines with their full stream over at Spinner right now.

I’m not sure Antigone Rising could get any more adorable. Their ’70s alt-country sound is a breath of fresh air for me today (apparently I’m in a really good mood, which is unusual for a work day). If I had to pick a favorite on the album, I guess I’d have to say I’m really feeling, “Borrowed Time” right now. I am also a big fan of “Everywhere is Home,” which you can hear below!

So basically I am obsessed with Tig Notaro (or, as I like to think of her, the lesbian cop that gave Sarah Silverman “the feeling” on The Sarah Silverman Show). She is hysterical and gay and so cute and so you should buy her album and listen to it religiously. If not for anything else, do it for Taylor Dane.

Honorable Mentions: Bassnectar, Greyson Chance (the kid who covered “Paparazzi” and went on to be loved by the world – but mostly by Ellen), Grinderman, Trace Adkins, Beirut, Jim Ward and Fountains of Wayne.
