Natasha Richardson’s injuries from skiing accident result in her death at age 45

UPDATE: Sadly, Natasha Richardson passed away on Wednesday, March 18 from head injuries sustained from the fall.

British actress Natasha Richardson, 45, suffered a serious brain injury after what appeared to be a minor fall on a beginner’s ski slope in Canada, according to The New York Post and multiple other sources.

Fox News (and several other media outlets) is reporting that she is currently being transferred back to New York to be taken off life support. Her husband Liam Neeson, who was on a film set in Toronto at the time, is reportedly on a private plane with her now.

Media reports say that her sons, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12, were with Richardson at the time of her fall, which initially didn’t seem to cause any injury. But ski resort officials insisted she see a doctor when she began complaining of a headache an hour later (she wasn’t wearing a helmet when she fell).

This is obviously tragic news for her family, which also includes her sister Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) and mother Vanessa Redgrave (Howard’s End, Mission: Impossible, etc.). A family representative is expected to release a statement Wednesday.

Natasha has appeared in more movies than I can mention here, including the Miramax comedy Blow Dry (2000), in which she played a lesbian hairdresser, and the Jodie Foster movie Nell (1994). But it was her role in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, with Lindsay Lohan, that is my personal favorite (and Lori’s), because she brought such warmth and charm to the role.

Here’s Richardson with Neeson in 2008 (they’ve been married since 1994).

We don’t normally cover serious events like this on the site, but I want to give everyone a place to discuss the news (since it’s the focus of almost every media outlet right now), and to talk about some of your favorite Natasha Richardson films or roles. Please, in light of the current situation, refrain from making any negative comments.
