Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey Take a Break from UHH

So, I had been wondering what on earth happened to Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey recently, and their electro-pop/indie rock band “Uh Huh Her,” which I first started following in 2008. I was late to the party, as usual, because I completely missed their first project, the “I See Red” EP from 2007 (during Leisha’s L Word days, no less). A year before Alice Pieszecki disappeared from our lives forever is when I stumbled across Uh Huh Her’s 2008 debut album release.

Does Common Reaction ring any bells? Let me refresh your musical memory (warning! Moody, emo electro-pop coming up)

Partners in both music and life, the couple went on to make the Black and Blue EP, Nocturnes, EP3, and in 2014, Future Souls. In true lesbian fashion, they headlined at the Dinah in 2013, and in true rockstar fashion, the pair were thrown off an airplane in 2011. It was this incident that earned them the most media attention, but under unfortunate circumstances. Southwest Airlines escorted Grey and Hailey from the plane after someone reported they were offended by the couple kissing. In a 2013 interview with Curve Magazine, Grey denied any overt PDA, stating,

“We weren’t kissing,” says Grey. “That was the whole point. I’m super shy to begin with. She gave me a little peck on the cheek. It wasn’t even on the lips. I’m a fiery Latina. I’m the one that got angry, not Leish. In fact, she was the calm one in that scenario. I’m kind of bummed. I actually would have loved to shove my tongue down her throat and have that be warranted.”

From Nocturnes:

In 2014, they released Future Souls and went on an American/Canadian tour.

And then….crickets. For a long time. Last week, the band’s Facebook page came up in my feed, which is where I discovered that they were taking a break from Uh Huh Her, and also had apparently changed the name to UHH (Uh, uhhhh not sure how to pronounce that). From Facebook:

“Dear UHH fans,

We realize a lot of you have been asking what is happening with the band. We decided after our “Future Souls” tour to take time off to pursue other endeavors. You could officially say we are on a “hiatus” of sorts. We feel like we needed to take this break to bring some new magic into our music and give our other loves some attention…Leisha has been back to acting, Camila has joined another indy band called “Summer Moon” and is working on many solo side projects and DJ’ing and Josh is currently a Zen Buddha Yogi Master teaching others the art of meditation and mindfulness in addition to being the best drummer ever. Life is multifaceted as you all know and we all have many different areas of creativity that we wanted to nurture in addition to UHH. We are so grateful for all the years of support that our fans have given us. We can truly say that your support allowed us to exist for so many years and for that we are so thankful. There will definitely be more UHH on the horizon but for now we will just say we love you all and thank you for your continued love! Happy Holidays to all of you.

PS-For our appreciation of our fans, we have put all things UHH on a massive sale for the holidays atwww.uhhuhher.com

Much love… Leisha and Camila”

And there you have it. So much for my dream of seeing Leisha sing at Dinah Shore, but the 2016 line-up featured Camila and Kate Moennig as A-list DJ’s. Were you there?
