The latest on Kristen Stewart and “K-11”

With this year’s K-11, Kristen Stewart continues to push the envelope and prove to Twilight naysayers that she’s more than a pretty face as she continues to tackle more mature acting roles like Welcome to the Rileys, in which she played a foul-mouthed runaway stripper opposite James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo. While only bare-bones details about the role have been reported – we know she plays a transgender prisoner locked up inside K-11, the Los Angeles County Jail facility that serves as the home for gay inmates that keeps them segregated from the general prison population – HollywoodLife.com got a first-look at the latest script and spilled the details.

Among their observations for the “radically racy movie”: Stewart will play Birdy, a 19-year-old “red-headed girl (naturally a boy)” who befriends one of Hollywood’s music magnates who winds up inside the love-filled K-11.

The dark script, co-written and directed by her mom Jules Mann-Stewart (a veteran script supervisor who’s also linked to Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning), also sees Birdy murder a convicted child molester who rapes Birdy while inside K-11.

The gritty indie drama, which is expected to go into production in June, also is said to feature all the main characters – rumored to include Stewart’s Twilight co-star Nikki Reed – engaging in consensual sex or being raped at one point in the film and is also extremely violent as the story finds the inmates banding together to overthrow the guard who sexually and verbally abuses them. Oh, and there’s a lot of drug use. Considering the recent ratings brouhaha surrounding Blue Valentine landing an NC-17 (it was later changed to R following an appeal), it will be interesting to see how much of the latest script remains in place. There’s still a lot of time between now and June.

What do you think? Are you interested to see K-Stew in something so dark? Anyone else think this sounds a lot like Boys Don’t Cry?
