After years of palling around with her permanently pale boyfriend, Kristen Stewart could become the world’s palest princess, Snow White. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Twilight star is up for the role of the fairest of them all in the new film Snow White and the Huntsman.
Several high-profile stars are already in talks to join the project including Viggo Mortensen as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. The film would be a retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, a much darker version of Snow White than most remember from the animated Disney classic. How dark? Well, it involves the cutting out and eating of hearts. Yum!
In the new film adaptation the Huntsman would become Snow White’s protector and mentor. No word on whether the seven dwarves would still show up (they’re in both the Grimm fairytale and the Disney version). But my guess is no one will be jauntily singing “heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to work we go” in this version.
Several other young actresses have tested for the part including upcoming Sucker Punch star Emily Browning, Elvis’ granddaughter Riley Keough, English star Felicity Jones and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander. But, according to THR, Universal Studios seems set on having Stewart for the part.
Since joining one of the biggest film franchises of all time, Stewart’s other movie projects have been largely indie dramas like The Runaways and Welcome to the Rileys. This could be a chance for her to play an iconic character, but still appeal to her fantasy fanbase already versed in a world of vampires and werewolves. Or, it could just be typecasting since, man, is that girl pale.
What do you think: fair or fairest move for K-Stew?
