It sounds almost redundant, but remember Total Recall? The amazing Paul Verhoeven sci-fi flick, based on the Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale," and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in full-on action hero mode, will soon be getting a remake.
According to io9.com, Len Wiseman (Underworld), looks to be the frontrunner for the director’s chair: "Len Wiseman is in final talks to direct, from a script by Equilibrium [and] Ultraviolet [writer and] director, Kurt Wimmer. This will be a new ‘contemporized’ adaptation."
The press release quotes Wiseman:
I’m not going to lie; I actually love the original film. It had mutants, hilariously overdone acting, a fun brain-bending storyline, and who could forget, a three-breasted woman.
But best of all, it had Sharon Stone, in one of her first big pre-Basic Instinct roles. I’m pretty concerned about how this one will turn out, especially considering the original has the benefit of 20 years of cheesy nostalgia going for it.
The only way this can be good is if they really go for a harder, darker feel. The original film was violent, but only in the most cartoonish, goofy way. Make it feel like a real mind-melt and you’ve got my money on opening night.
Another brave suggestion: Bring Sharon Stone back. Not as Quaid’s wife, but as Quaid, and have Ms. Stone re-launch her career as an action star. C’mon, it could totally happen!
As for things you can actually watch right now, Renee O’Connor (from Xena, duh) is currently starring in a new, wonderfully creepy sci-fi webseries called Ark .
The show features some of the creepiest, most intriguing action this side of the original Alien and The Matrix.
Here’s what O’Connor herself had to say about it:
Definitely go and check it out (even if it’s just in your loyal duty as a Xena fan). You will not be disappointed.
