Everything finally seems to be in order for the filming of the upcoming Runaways movie — reportedly titled Cherry Bomb — with Kristen Stewart mulleted-up to play Joan Jett and the rest of the band, err, cast complete. Now, all we have to do is wait for the film to come out — oh, and gossip about steamy lesbian sex scenes, of course.
I suppose I shouldn’t get ahead of myself, but the word is already out about a possible on-screen hookup between Stewart and Dakota Fanning, who will play Runaways lead singer Cherie Currie. Life & Style reports:
Gasp! What will Robert Pattinson say? But seriously, in a totally non-creepy way (Fanning is 15, people) I’m really excited about this — and wonder if Cherie will be the only one Joan smooches in the film.
As Sarah Warn detailed previously, Jett is working as an executive producer on the film, which appeared to have some lesbian scenes lined up from the start:
While I find it impossible to keep up with Stewart’s allegedly wild love life (Is she back with her ex? Is Robert begging her to date him — or cheating on her with another woman? I have read all of the above in one day from various tabloids. Sheesh.) I can’t help but wonder what the tabloids will say about her steamy scenes with Fanning.
In any case, I’m very stoked about this movie. With such young, wildly popular actresses on board (TV actress Alessandra Torresani will play Lita Ford and Gossip Girl’s Stella Maeve is set to play the late Sandy West), we hope a whole new generation will be introduced to the greatness that is The Runaways — who certainly inspired me, though my short-lived high school punk band The Cherry Bombs never really took off.
If the story of Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Currie and Sandy West doesn’t inspire you to delve even deeper into the world of ladies in punk, I’m not quite sure what will.
