In a new clip from Freeheld, Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore) addresses the freeholders who have denied her request for her pension to go to her domestic partner, Stacie (Ellen Page), after she inevitably dies from rapidly growing cancer. Her prognosis is not good, and all she wants is for the pension she has worked so hard for as an Ocean Police officer to go to her significant other, as it would to her husband were she married to a man. It’s an emotional scene where Laurel makes a case for equality.
Freeheld is in limited theaters now and opens nationwide on October 16.
