Morning Brew – Brittney Griner won’t go to USA Team Training Camp

Good morning!

Australian country singer Beccy Cole talks about why she came out as a lesbian. From her interview with The Daily Mail Australia:

“I had all these signs that pointed towards my being a lesbian, and I’d spent the first 26 years of my life running the other way. When I did admit it to myself I had a failed marriage and I was a mum and I was ready to face some truth, and that’s when it presented itself. I saw two girls kissing on the television and it was this moment. I like to say it was like a ton of lesbian bricks coming down on my head.”

Brittney Griner has made the decision not to attend the U.S. women’s national basketball team training camp. Director Carol Callan says this will not affect her place on the team, and they support her taking this opportunity to work on herself. Brittney’s agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas had this to say:

“Brittney has been through a lot these last couple weeks and after her health began to suffer, she felt it best to take a step back and continue to focus on her counseling. She knows USA Basketball deserves her full mental and physical commitment and given the circumstances, she didn’t feel like she could fulfill that responsibility. Brittney is incredibly grateful for USA Basketball’s support through what has been a challenging time.”

We’re all rooting for you, Brittney.
