Morning Brew – Tegan and Sara release a Christmas ornament

Good morning!

I hope you had an amazing weekend. Thank you to everyone of you who participated in LezBiBuy. I had a great time meeting readers in LA and seeing photos and stories from other cities.

Desiree Akhavan’s Appropriate Behavior has a new poster and (finally!) a trailer. I highly recommend seeing this, which opens in NY and LA and also plays on VOD on January 16.

Desi also made Cosmo’s list of 10 Stars Who Are Going to be Huge in 2015. Partly because she’s in the new season of Girls, too.

Mel B’s ex-girlfriend Christa Parker has spoken about their relationship:

“When I first saw Mel I didn’t know who she was. I felt a vibe, like kindred souls, I guess. But I never imagined it was going to escalate. I had never been in a relationship with a woman or even had a female crush. But our children became friends and after a while we became inseparable too. I knew she had dated women before and she would always tell me, ‘You need to try new things’. She knew I wasn’t happy – my partner and I had been together for six years and we fought like crazy. She would tell me about experiences she had with girls. She told me her last girlfriend, Christine Crokos, had got too possessive and they broke up.”

Mel’s reps have said Christa and Mel were “never formally together.” They must not have exchanged promise rings.

On HuffPost Gay Voices: “My Children Don’t Know I’m a Lesbian.” (It’s not what you think.)

Out comic Sandi Toksvig says she was once removed from a charity line-up because she was a lesbian. It was for Save the Children in 1994, and she was supposed to host the 75th anniversary event in London when she received a call just a few days prior and was told there were “concerns about the Princess Royal meeting a gay woman.” Yeah that sounds legit. Face palm. Here she is with Sue Perkins. Twice the gay.

80-year-old lesbian romance novelist Elizabeth Lister just published her fourth book but says she’s having trouble getting it on the shelves at her local libraries.

“I donated my books to the city library and nothing. I asked three librarians, and then I got mad. I could see no reason for it, I know they’re well written.”

Don’t these librarians know how queer they are supposed to be?

Emmerdale‘s lesbian couple Ali and Ruby are set to get hitched. Sadly, Ali revealed she had a one-night stand with her ex-husband and thought she could be pregnant with his baby. Yikes. Will they still get married? It’s a soap opera so anything could go wrong.

Yvette Monreal was a guest on MTV’s web show about Faking It, All the Feels.

Cyndi Lauper’s Home for the Holidays benefit went down in NYC this week, and here are some of the faces you love in attendance.

Last week I told you about the initial Grammy nominees and how Brandy Clark and Sia are both up for hot categories. The rest of the nominees have been announced and Tegan and Sara are up for BEST SONG WRITTEN FOR VISUAL MEDIA with “Everything is Awesome” from The Lego Movie and St. Vincent’s self-titled is up for BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM.

BTW, T&S have a new Christmas ornament available. You need one.
