Carla Gugino’s “Righteous” role

Righteous Kill is not exactly the kind of movie title that makes me rush to the theater. Even with both Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino starring. But the most recent cast addition gets me all a-tingle. Is anyone still reading? Apologies if your computer overheated. Carla Gugino will play “a crime scene investigator with a dark personal life,” a description sure to give me pleasant dreams of sharing her darkness.

Gugino also recently joined the cast of Watchmen, the movie version of Alan Moore‘s acclaimed comic book series. She will play Sally Jupiter, the original Silk Spectre. Some Watchmen fans think that Sally is a lesbian who uses her sexual wiles as a cover. I’m sure the matter will be addressed in the film, since directors always hop on the chance to honestly explore lesbianism. Oh, wait.

I’m personally looking forward to seeing Gugino in Our Lady of Victory, in which she plays Cathy Rush, the coach who led Immaculata College to the first national championship in women’s basketball. Of course, I happen to think that playing basketball is the second sexiest thing a group of women can do.

The best part about these projects is that they should give Gugino decent screen time. I still haven’t forgiven the networks for canceling Threshold and Karen Sisco. If I can’t see her every week, at least I want to see her for more than a few minutes when she does appear. And hopefully these movies will be worth seeing for more than her. I don’t like having to sit through flicks like Rise: Blood Hunter for my Carla G. fix. OK, maybe I don’t mind so much when she’s wearing this:
