Scarlett Johansson: we’re just that into her

Scarlett Johansson is one busy hottie these days. Besides shocking the media by not hiding her curves and recording an album, Johansson has been working on projects like The Nanny Diaries, due out Friday, The Other Boleyn Girl and a Woody Allen film unofficially entitled Midnight in Barcelona.

Woody wears bucket hats a lot. What’s up with that? Here’s another picture from the Midnight shoot, because not sharing it with you would just be wrong. Now comes word that Johansson has three more movies lined up. First, she’s joining Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Drew Barrymore and Ginnifer Goodwin in the cast of He’s Just Not That Into You. I’m not sure if that’s good news or not. I’m still skeptical about this movie, despite an unquestionably gorgeous cast. Are we just going to see these ladies get their hearts broken one by one, while we sit in a dark theater knowing that the love of a good woman could make their troubles vanish? We’ll see. Next up on Johansson’s schedule is Will Eisner’s The Spirit, Frank Miller‘s film adaptation of the comic book, The Spirit, by, well, Will Eisner. ScarJo will play Silken Floss, “a sexy and intelligent secretary with a vindictive instinct that makes her the perfect accomplice to the Octopus (Samuel Jackson).” What could be wrong with that? I’m glad you asked. In Eisner’s comic book, Silken Floss was Dr. Floss, nuclear physicist and surgeon. Why the change? Frank Miller. To say his work is sexist is an understatement. And here it seems blatant. I mean, The Spirit is full of femme fatales, so why not use one of those characters instead of turning a prestigious doctor into a sex kitten? Not that I have a problem with sex kittens, mind you, but you get the point. To thank you for indulging my mini-rant, here’s Scarlett in The Island. This winter, Johansson will begin work on Mary Queen of Scots, in the title role. The period film is a love story based on the queen’s early life and her schemes to take over the throne of England. That’s what I call blonde ambition. I’m looking forward to this movie; to me, Johansson seems born to play historic figures. Can’t you just see her in a lavish costume and a crown? She certainly looks the part as the Boleyn sister who kept her head. Yes, that’s Natalie Portman she’s undressing. Hey, you have your version of history, I have mine.

So what ScarJo films will you stand in line for? Whatever you choose, the bottom line is that we’ll have a steady stream of Scarlett Johansson for quite awhile. And that’s a stream I’d dive into anytime.
