Morning Brew – Robin Roberts talks coming out in “Good Housekeeping”

Good morning, and happy Monday! We’ve got a full GLAAD Awards write-up coming soon in case you’re wondering how I could have a whole Brew without mentioning them.

Concussion director Stacie Passon talked with The Guardian about lesbian visibility and LBD.

“We’ve put ourselves in this suburban existence, we’ve tried to change from within and, in the process, we’ve sort of lost what made us gay to begin with. We look around and we see straight couples having more fun that we are, essentially because they realised that this is a dead-end life if you don’t spice it up.”
This poet named Christine is a brave young woman.

Tru Love looks like an interesting new take on women in relationships. It’s coming out on DVD from Wolfe later this year.

The Philippines have a new lesbian dance night called Queerspotting, making it easier for queers to find one another.

The Center for Gay and Lesbian Studies at at the CUNY Graduate Center is hosting the first-ever Queers & Comics Conference. Alison Bechdel is, of course, speaking.

Refinery29 is over this phase of talking about bisexuality being a phase.

Elle has a great piece on why people love to hate TV daughters, asking, “If the world is becoming caramel and queer why the hell are our TV teens still so vanilla and lame?”

Newleyweds Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry attended the MTV Movie Awards last night.

Ellen Page did, too, and she shared a moment with Shailene Woodley.

Back to Sara G for a second. The Talk co-host appeared with her new Bad Teacher castmates for an event at Pink Taco in L.A. this week too. I love Ari Graynor so I can’t wait.

i-D has a fun piece on Jean Paul Gaultier’s most awesome runway shows, including a Spring 2014 debut with Coco Rocha and Karlie Kloss doing Danny and Sandy in Grease. Coco in drag is yes.

Out style guru and TV personality Tabatha Coffey has a new book coming out tomorrow. OWN IT! Be the Boss of Your Life-at Home and in the Workplace will teach readers “that the secret to their success is in taking charge of their own future. “

The second season of I Luv U But is returning in May, and I have to say I’m not familiar with the series, but it looks pretty funny. The premise: “Mouna and Sam are a young Arab-Australian husband and wife who are both gay but living in a marriage of convenience. Due to the traditions of their Lebanese heritage, coming out as gay to their parents, siblings and extended family, is simply not an option. Thus, they live a lie but they live life to the fullest!”

Robin Roberts is on the cover of Good Housekeeping this month where she talks about coming out.

“Love is love, and I’m grateful to have that. Sometimes there’s a stigma attached to how people view you if you’re living a certain way. But I don’t care – you gotta live your life. You gotta find what happiness is and what it means for you, and you can’t get caught up in what someone is saying about you on Twitter. You don’t go through a year like I did to not be happy and not make your own choices.”

Check out this new documentary about out musicians. For Which We Stand features Melissa Etheridge, Frenchie Davis, Diana King and Chely Wright.
