Hey, Muggles, how’s your brainspace this morning? Not addled like a St. Mungo’s patient that got hit with a too-potent Confundus Charm? Well, let me just go ahead and boggle your mind with this epic news of epic epicness: J.K. Rowling is screenwriting a brand new Harry Potter universe movie based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! It’s true! It’s real! It’s not an April Fool’s joke or your most glorious dreamscape!
Right, so. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was one of two Hogwarts textbooks J.K. Rowling wrote to benefit the UK charity Comic Relief (along with Quidditch Through the Ages.) Fantastic Beasts is basically Newt Scamander’s field journal of magical and mythical animals, and inside our copy are notes and games of hangman and tic-tac-toe by Harry and Ron and Hermione (“Harry loves
I would certainly never dream of telling J.K. Rowking how to make her magic, but one idea I have is that this movie could totally feature of love story between Newt and Dumbledore, who were academic contemporaries that were very found of each other. Or another idea could be to incorporate Professor Grubbly-Plank, the Care of Magical Creatures teacher who was gayer even than Professor Hooch. Or another idea is, well, you know Luna Lovegood married Newt Scamander’s grandson, Rolf Scamander, right? And you know Luna was bisexual. So, there’s another way this movie could be queer. Just spitballin’. Just thinkin’ out loud. Just letting my brain write its own fan fiction for a movie spin-off of a movie spin-off of a book spin-off of a book series. Like you do. (I have a special bond with Jo, so probably I know what I am talking about here.)
The story will kick-off in New York and Warner Brothers hopes it will be just the first in a series of Fantastic Beasts films. Plus also you can count on all these guys showing up in various forms at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando and in video games for years and years.
I’m too excited to write anything else about it. I’m going to go eat a bunch of Honeyduke’s Best Chocolate and fly my broom around in circles and pass out in a heap of dizzy euphoria.
What do you think about the news that JK Rowling is writing a film in the Potter Universe? Maybe she’ll follow it up with a film series on Quidditch!
