Pretty Little Liars showrunner Marlene King and beloved “You’re a wanker, number nine!” actress Lena Headey have teamed up for a project I don’t even need to elaborate on because when I said their names together in the same sentence, you knew you were going to drop ten dollars on it. But here are some details anyway: King has adapted Cassandra Clare‘s impossibly popular The Mortal Instruments book series for the big screen and she is joined in her endeavor by Headey, who plays the Shadowhunting mom of Clary Fray, a teenager who finds herself smack dab in the middle of a whole lot of supernatural high jinks one fateful evening in a Brooklyn nightclub.
The trailer for the film hit the internet today:
First things first: The trailer makes the movie look infinitely better than the books, which shouldn’t surprise me at all. Marlene King knows a thing or two about making fictional heroines better on the screen than they are on the page. And second things second: I didn’t think I’d ever take Lily Collins seriously again after Mirror Mirror, but she’s working the whole KStew thing here just right.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones hits theaters next summer. Are you a locked-and-loaded fan of the books who won’t miss it? Does this trailer and lesbian dream team-up make you want to give it a go even if you haven’t read the books (or hated them)?
