The Weekly Geek: “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”

Crowdfunding is all the rage these days — and we couldn’t be happier. Some of the weirder, cooler, and most creative games, movies and other art projects now have a shot at being made — that is, if they can find an audience.

We just became aware of one such project — “Iranian vampire western” A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo. With a woman in the creative seat, a blend of nerd-ready themes in the subject matter, and an incredibly fun pitch, you can safely say we’re dying to see this film get made.

From Wired:

“Somehow, this film – when people read the script, when people even just hear about it – it’s exciting,’ says A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour in her IndieGogo video pitch for the film. ‘The general response I get is, ‘Wow, I want to see that movie.'”

Amirpour, who is looking to raise $90,000 for her film on IndieGoGo, plans to begin shooting in September in Taft, California. The general premise is that a Boy (a “Persian James Dean” type) still believes he can find love in the movie’s fictional “Bad City,” where – wouldn’t ya know? – there is a Girl, who makes a habit out of following around the bad men of Bad City. The town is also populated by the Boss, the Prostitute, the Hustler, the gay Rockabilly, the Drug Addict and the Gambler, to be played by Marshall Manesh (aka Ranjit on How I Met Your Mother).

The Indiegogo campaign ends on August 18, and you can find out more on the project’s page. We certainly can’t tell you whether the end product will be as awesome as it sounds, but this may be a very cool (and very geeky) way to back women — and wild creativity — in film.
