Morning Brew – Wednesday, Feb. 23: “Desperately Seeking Susan” was in danger of looking “lesbian,” Amanda Seyfried on “Chloe”

What up, Wednesday?

Creep’s new video features Nina Sky (of “Move Yo Body” fame) and they are giving us a sneak peak of what they will look like when it gets released.

Very Creep-esque. Love it already.

Hollywood publicist Reid Rosefelt told a reporter that the promo shots of Madonna and Rosanna Arquette taken by Herb Ritts for their film Desperately Seeking Susan were a little too Sapphic for the studio.

Some people at Orion thought that the image would make people think it was a lesbian movie. Thankfully the film’s producers, Midge Sanford and Sarah Pillsbury, were able to make their case.

Pretty sure that I never made the mistake of renting that film under the impression it was “lesbian.” Bound, on the other hand….

In the new issue of Interview, Justin Timberlake interviews his new co-star Amanda Seyfried. In it, she discusses taking risks in roles, including her lesbianish, very sexy, very nude one in Chloe last year.

I thought that doing Chloe was going to be a risk and I was wondering what people were going to think, but then I was like, “You know what? The experience I’ll have making this film is way too important to me.” That can be fulfilling to the point where you just don’t really care about how the work is going to be received. It’s thrilling to just not care-unless, of course, you’d hurt somebody.

Disclaimer: No one was hurt in the making of Chloe. The film did, however, just lose a Mr. Skin award for “breast picture” to Piranha 3D. I’m sure Amanda isn’t losing any sleep.

You can vote for Goldfrapp as Glamour UK’s band of the year, which they totally are. Other gayish ladies on the list (in their own respective categories) include Lisa Cholodenko, Jessie J and Elisabeth Moss and Keira Knightley in their roles in The Children’s Hour.

Bisexual musician Joan Wasser (Joan as Police Woman) told Blackbook why she doesn’t shave.

For me, body hair is beautiful. When somebody shaves I think it just looks like a shaved area. It doesn’t look more beautiful. I know some people agree with me and some people don’t. I haven’t shaved for years and years. I don’t, and I won’t. I just don’t think it looks attractive and it doesn’t feel right to me and it never has.

I know many women on AfterEllen.com who would agree with her.

Jane Lynch is everywhere, including the Disney Channel’s third season premiere of their animated series Phineas and Ferb. She told EW.com about her role as Jeremy’s mother.

My character is rather full of herself like Sue, but much more boisterous and self conscious. But like Sue, she speaks confidently of things she barely understands.

Susan Mikula (who might still be best known as Rachel Maddow’s partner/luckiest woman in the world) is exhibiting “Selections from American Vale” at the George Lawson Gallery in San Francisco this spring. The photos were shot in the Berkshire and Taconic mountain ranges in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, “a city that grew on the spine of the massive industrial facilities of the General Electric (G.E.) Corporation.”

Mikula said in the press release:

“Once Pittsfield and G.E. were synonymous, with each other and with a thriving, vital community. Now you can drive through town a million times and not even know that these massive facilities are still there. Now they’re hidden behind layers of security and obscurity, like an old skeleton in the family closet. But places like these had and still have such a powerful impact on our landscapes and our lives, and I’m so drawn to the sense of story that hangs over them, and to their sheer, physical beauty.

AE reader Sportylady let us know about Penny & Aggie, a webcomic that seems to have things progressing between the two characters.

Looks like their friendship is moving a little more into relationship territory — only time will tell!

Brandi Carlile is going on tour with Ray LaMontagne in May and June. Ticket pre-sales begin March 1!

UK X-Factor contestant Mary Byrne told Gay Times that she was once in a lesbian relationship.

I have a lot of gay friends in Dublin and I had a relationship with a woman 30 odd years ago as well. I’m not gay but I came out of a bad relationship with a man and, you know, met this girl who just fit the bill at the time and we had a great relationship for a year.

“Fit the bill.” I suppose this is a person fitting for the term “hasbian,” as the kids say.
