Happy Tuesday guys!
Kelly McGillis went on The Joy Behar Show last night and talked about getting sober, becoming a full-time mom and her participation in the new breast cancer documentary 1 a Minute. Of course, she also had some thoughts to share on her recent civil union, as Joy asked what she thinks about gay marriage and how she had issues with her sexuality since she was young and living in New York.
Thanks for speaking out Kelly.
Also, Larry King Live dedicated a show to gay bullying and suicide last night, featuring Wanda Sykes, Kathy Griffin, Tim Gunn, Lance Bass and Chely Wright. And Wanda is also part of the new WeGiveADamn video on bullying.
Ani Difranco wants feminism to save the world. While at the Omega Institute’s 2010 Women and Power Conference, she said that coming together in marches and protests are still relevant for getting the action and reactions we need.
"Marches are all about driving fun, coming together in a positive space, and you meet people who make you feel less alone. That is where spirituality, activism and art become one."
"I started writing “Effing Dykes” because I was getting really tired of all my friends asking me idiotic questions about being a lesbian. I would be out with all my straight friends at dinner and they would ask me really graphic questions about totally inappropriate stuff."
If I had a quarter for every time someone asked me how lesbians "do it."
Lesley Goldberg talked with Heather Matarazzo for Echomag.com about how she came out, in honor of Oct. 11 being National Coming Out Day.
"It wasn’t until The New York Daily News put something on Page 6 where they had seen me making out with another woman and my mom read it. That was the first honest conversation that we got to have about it and it was awkward and uncomfortable and she reacted the best way she knew how with the tools that she had at the time."
No worries — Heather said her mom loves her fiancee Carolyn Murphy and everything is all good now. Good on ya, Mama Matarazzo.
And here are a few more It Gets Better videos for your viewing pleasure.
Kerry Washington says she is still working on that Dusty Springfield biopic with Kristin Chenoweth, in which they will play lovers.
"She so busy right now with Promises, Promises [on Broadway]…But we’ll get it done. Trust me. We want to make out with each other as much as people want us to make out with each other."
Glad she’s on our side!
