Morning Brew – Tuesday, May 3: Eva Green says she’s a lesbian (but doesn’t mean it), Brandi Carlile on her love of Indigo Girls

Good morning!

Let’s start with this photo of Lindsay Lohan from her new spread in Blank magazine. You can see the rest (which has a lot of leopard print and cigarette smoking) here.

Evan Rachel Wood looked lovely at the Met Gala in NYC last night.

Eva Green opens up in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar where she discusses her “obsession with Helena Bonham Carter and refers to herself as such:

I’m a lesbian. A paedophile lesbian. I’m a virgin — a nun, actually. A sexy lesbian, transsexual nun! I’m going through a phase.

Now, since the entire interview hasn’t hit the web, I’m pretty sure she wasn’t being serious, but now I’m really curious to read the whole thing. Considering the “pedophile” part, it’s probably a reference to roles she’s played, and that description could fit with her part in the lesbian-themed Cracks.

This is a very NSFW video of Jenny Shimizu, so do with that what you will!

The Publishing Triangle has announced the winners of 2010’s literary awards and winners include Barbara Hammer (The Judy Grahn Award for Lesbian Nonfiction), Jen Currin (The Audre Lorde Award for Lesbian Poetry) and Katharine Beutner (The Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction). Does that give you at least one new book to read?

Aussie reader Incognito tipped us off to this this TV program on being gay in school. Guests included college professor Lynne Hillier and Hannah Williams and Savannah Supsk, a teen couple who were disallowed from going to their school formal together in Melbourne. Check it out on InSight if you live down under.

Lesbian reality star Rachel Robinson has just released a new fitness video. Check the trailer:

It’s all yours for $14.99. (The video, not the body.)

How many gay women have taken on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and done it well? According to Paste, three: Amanda Palmer, Brandi Carlile and k.d. lang.

Speaking of Brandi, she talked with Glide about why she loves working with The Indigo Girls.

They derive a lot of energy from the new things they play and the people with whom they perform. They’ve also trained their fans over the years to have a palette for new music, because Amy (Ray) has her own indie label where she releases a lot of up-and-coming musicians and bands, and Emily (Saliers) is always looking for new music to bring on the road. Their fans are now used to the fact that they’re always going to be introduced to great new stuff at an Indigo Girls concert. They’re not just going to grab a folky artist from their generation to go on tour — they’re going to seek out a bizarre, great indie and/or queer singer instead. And they’re going to collaborate with them! They’ll get to sing a third harmony part to “Galileo” or “Closer to Fine” and all of a sudden that song’s going to have new life and new energy. They’re really smart that way.

And that’s why I love seeing them tour together. We’ll have our own interview with Brandi for you later today.

I’m digging cartoonist Katie Omberg and her comic Office Bitch. She told the Washington City Paper she’s inspired by Alison Bechdel and Ariel Schrag, which I can totally see.
