Morning Brew: Tuesday, May 18

So much stuff to talk about today. Let’s get into it!

Remember when we told you Ellen Page was going to star in the drama adaptation of Freeheld? It’s finally getting started! Page will play lesbian car mechanic Stacie Andree whose fights for her partner’s pension benefits after she becomes diagnosed with a terminal illness.

The film now has financing and is being written by Ron Nyswaner, who penned Philadelphia. I’m having really good feelings about this film, except it’s going to be the saddest movie ever. Still, I can’t wait to see Ellen’s performance.

Is it too late for me to become an actress and audition for the part of her girlfriend?

PopEater has an interview with Melissa Etheridge in which she talks about groupies, being a sex symbol and how she’s not gay enough for Glee. A quote:

I’ve had the gay community say, “Why don’t you write a song saying ‘her’? Your lyrics are non-gender.” They’re never happy. And the straight folks, they just assume the lyrics are about a woman, and they assume that if they go to a concert it’s going to be all gay people. There are stereotypes we all have. But there’s no us and them. Good God, we’re all the same.

We’ll have our own interview with Melissa up on the site this week. So PopEater, you are not “The Only One.” (I really just wanted to use that reference.)

Another day, another rumor about Lindsay Lohan. I can’t help but hope this one is true! Photographer Indrani told The New York Post:

We have been spending a lot of time together. I have never had a relationship with a woman before, but Lindsay is just somebody who I find fascinating, gorgeous and extremely smart, as well as super-hot.

The two have been “secretly seeing each other since the women worked together on a photo shoot last fall.” Indrani’s business partner, Marcus Klinko added in his two cents:

Lindsay and Indrani have been seeing each other since we shot her last fall. I’ve seen them on dates, I have seen them making out . . . Indrani is a good influence on Lindsay. She is the opposite of a party girl — a Princeton graduate, she’s into art and is a philanthropist — not what you’d expect the typical girl for Lindsay to go out with. When they are together, they talk about art and the deeper meaning in life.

OK I’m sold on Indrani. Lindsay, what say you?

Want to watch Rachel Maddow giving a commencement speech to a bunch of lesbians Smith College grads? She’s so good at pep talks.

In this video, Cynthia Nixon responds to the infamous Newsweek article saying gays can’t play straight.

I wouldn’t want her on my bad side, Newsweek! Have you seen Miranda in action?

AfterEllen.com reader Amy Wong has a post of some Asian women she’d love to see on the Hot 100 next year. I am inclined to agree with her, and thankful she turned me on to some of these beautiful ladies.

OK, chew on that. Same time, same place tomorrow.
